Job Summary

The Accountant II supports the Facilities and Maintenance Department with accounting related responsibilities.

The salary range is $64,538 - $92,688 (12 months/260 days)

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
  • CPA Certification preferred.
  • Three years of professional accounting or financial experience.
  • Experience with a financial and accounting system preferred.
  • Basic understanding of employee benefits preferred.

A combination of education and experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Milwaukee Public Schools with preparation of accounting entries, account reconciliations, and maintenance of accounting, and payment records.
  • Reviews billing by partners, distributes costs appropriately and invoices customers as necessary.
  • Maintains databases and spreadsheets with records of payments and related receivables.
  • Analyzes accounts, performs account reconciliations, prepares journal entries and produces monthly financial reports for management.
  • Prepares annual closing, adjusting and reversing journal entries as well as supporting schedules.
  • Assists internal and external auditors as directed by supervisor.
  • Evaluates and documents current accounting procedures. Provides recommendations for improvement and assists with the repayment process.
  • Develops bi-weekly reports ensure entities are billed correctly.
  • Develops monthly reports for management that illustrate the payment schedule and the amounts paid.
  • Develops billing and payment plans.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
