General Summary

The Senior Project Manager drives strategic, high-impact digital transformation initiatives across our financial services ecosystem, blending technical acumen, agile methodologies, and customer-centric vision. As a part of the Technology Business Unit reporting to our Vice President of Technology, this visionary leader designs and executes digital transformation roadmaps that amplify member engagement and operational efficiency, owning P&L management for major project portfolios and applying data analytics to optimize resource allocation and ROI. They champion adaptive project governance (agile, waterfall, hybrid), tailored to project complexity while ensuring regulatory compliance, and build and lead self-organizing, cross-functional teams through internal and external partnerships. The role also entails monitoring quality assurance frameworks with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines established by our Product and Engineering teams, fostering a culture of experimentation, and supervising the project resources to streamline administrative workflows. Additionally, the Senior Project Manager crafts storyboarded project visions and data storytelling for executive stakeholders, ensuring transparency on progress, risks, and strategic impact, all while embedding risk-aware project planning and ensuring 100% adherence to Credit Union policies and emerging tech standards.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities



  • Define and document project scope, goals and deliverables that support organizational goals in collaboration with management and stakeholders.
  • Develop full-scale project plans and associated communication documents, often focused on complex, corporate projects, but also in support of smaller team-focused efforts where appropriate.
  • Manages project execution, resource deployment and overall coordination efforts to ensure projects are completed on schedule and to necessary requirements.
  • Manage deliverables from all functional teams ensuring they meet the defined timeline and quality based on project guidelines.
  • Determine and assess need for additional project staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary, during project cycle.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical requirements, risks, etc.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports through dashboards to stakeholders, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Encourage experimentation, retrospectives, and transparent feedback loops to evolve methodologies and amplify team ownership.
  • Empower and/or lead cross-functional teams with diverse styles, skills, abilities, and objectives to help teams move projects forward.
  • Manage the performance of the internal project team. This includes writing and delivering performance appraisals, coaching, and counseling to ensure effective performance of project management office staff members. Recommends hires, promotions, transfers, salary increases, bonuses, disciplinary actions, and terminations for associated staff.
  • Provide routine updates across the enterprise through centralized reporting channels, including Tableau, Atlassian, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Comply with all applicable Rules, Regulations and Statutes of the NCUA and other appropriate governing bodies to include but not limited to: the Credit Union Bylaws, Credit Union Code of Conduct, Credit Union Employee Guidebook, Bank Secrecy/Anti-Money Laundering Act, Fair Housing Act, Fair Lending Act, and Fair Credit Reporting.
  • Build and maintain expertise in understanding various cross-functional banking functions, industry leading project management methodology and practices, knowledgebase, and general regulations.

Experience and Skills

Education: PMP/PRINCE2/Agile/Scrum Master certification (e.g., CSM, SAFe). Optional: ITIL, Lean, or Digital Transformation credentials. Four (4) year college degree OR the combination of 5 years of education, professional training or work experience.

Experience: 8 - 12+ years in project management, with at least 5 years leading high-visibility, cross-functional projects - preferred in financial services (or of equivalent demonstrated complexity). 3+ years specifically in a leadership capacity (overseeing project portfolios, driving product or organizational change, etc.).

Skills: Self-starter with knowledge of and demonstrated experience in project management processes and methodologies. Experience in driving concurrent and complex projects within a matrixed organization. Understanding of the facilitation of workshops for stakeholder buy-in using design thinking principles, alongside crafted story maps for complex project visualization. Demonstrated ability to mentor junior PMs in agile certification pathways and an ability to conduct 360-degree feedback for team development. Appropriate computer skills required.

Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Must be able to communicate effectively to translate user requirements and project scope to intended outcome. Capable facilitator to manage groups of varying sizes. Proficient presentation skills required. Must be able to work in a team environment.

Supervisory: Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.

Location: Remote opportunities in the following states ONLY: MD & DC ($98,527.91 - $147,791.87), VA, CT, FL, NC, SC, TX, LA; Chicago, IL ($88,555.45 - $132,833.18); Somerville, MA ($92,943.34 - $139,415.00); New York, NY ($99,325.71 - $148,988.57) and Seattle, WA ($94,140.03 - $141,210.05).
