Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing training in policy and procedures for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP), Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) programs. Responsibilities include providing on-boarding, support, and training to newly hired Public Benefits staff, reviewing case records to ensure compliance with State timeliness and accuracy, and providing feedback to trainees and their supervisor on their performance and training progress. This position is also responsible for developing and providing refresher trainings to experienced staff. Duties also include taking part in meetings outside the agency on policy, communicating procedures and system changes related to Public Benefits to staff timely, and developing and maintaining training and reference materials.
To be successful, the ideal candidate should have the following:
- Knowledge of automated systems related to program area and job role.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and practices of families, children, and adult public assistance programs.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and various methodology and modes of training.
- Knowledge of casework theory and practice.
- Knowledge of interviewing processes.
- Skill in conducting interviews to gather pertinent information related to the determination of eligibility for public assistance programs.
- Skill in providing appropriate and effective case management for those applying for or receiving public assistance programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively in understandable terms, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients, co-workers, staff, other professionals, officials, and the general public.
- Ability to understand, interpret and apply policy appropriately in determining eligibility.
Subject to training requirements, this position may offer telework opportunities following 60 days of successful performance evaluation.
Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in a field related to assigned area; two (2) years of professional experience in Public Assistance Programs or directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. An additional one (1) year experience facilitating training is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Public Benefits policy knowledge and experience processing SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF applications and renewals.

- The successful candidate will undergo background checks as required.
- A valid driver's license and good driving record is required and may be reviewed annually for continued qualification.
- Must hold or obtain certifications required by the Department.
- Position is located at our Leesburg office. The candidate may be assigned and required to work at alternate work site(s) to carry out duties supporting the needs of the County.
- The successful candidate must be available for duty beyond the normal workday (8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.); may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
- The successful candidate may be required to perform work that involves crisis situations and is required to make decisions involving people, resources, and property.
