Salary Grade: T24

Salary Range: $40,000 - $45,000

Position Summary:

Under the direction of Dr. Lucia Borriello, Principal Investigator (PI), the assistant scientist provides technical support by performing scientific experiments. Maintains record of data and might be involved in training graduate and medical students in research methods and procedures.

The Borriello Lab uses a multi-disciplinary approach to study the biology of metastasis, integrating cell signaling, biochemistry, molecular biology, multiplex tissue imaging, several mouse models, and intravital imaging of tumor cells in live animals.

Required Education and Experience:

* Bachelor's Degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, a related discipline and two years of experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

* Molecular Biology experience

Required Skills and Abilities:

* Experience in cell biology (cell culture, DNA and siRNA transfection), and molecular biology and biochemistry (i.e., cloning, DNA and RNA isolation, cell lysis, and immunoblot)

* Strong organizational skills

* Excellent communication skills

* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a research team

Essential Duties:

* Performs molecular and cellular biology experiments to understand how tumor cells, that have escaped from the primary tumor, survive in distant organs in a latent state for years (dormancy) and how they induce metastatic relapse.

* Experience in basic molecular and cellular biology methods (including DNA and RNA isolation, siRNA methods, construct engineering, tissue culture, preparation and analysis of samples through flow cytometry, among other), and in biochemistry techniques (including Western blots, immuno-precipitations among others).

* Techniques include, but are not limited to, cell culture, cell transfection, DNA/RNA/protein isolation, PCR, western blot, immunofluorescence, ELISA, in vivo animal models.

* Assists the PI to set up the lab and oversee ordering laboratory material.

* Assist the PI in maintaining laboratory data and equipment.

*Present results from their research at lab meetings, department meetings, and national and international conferences.

* Performs other duties as assigned
