Location: South Bay, Florida Position Summary Field Quality Inspectors are responsible for conducting on-site inspections to ensure construction work meets project specifications, contract requirements, and quality standards. Working directly in the field, this role involves hands-on inspection, material testing, data collection, and reporting. Field Quality Inspectors help maintain compliance with project documents and contribute to a culture of safety, precision, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily field inspections to verify compliance with construction drawings, technical specifications, and quality standards.
- Collect and test construction materials (soil, concrete, aggregates, etc.) following ASTM and project-specific standards.
- Accurately document inspection results, test data, and any observed deficiencies using approved reporting formats.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure proper installation methods, materials usage, and adherence to project quality plans.
- Identify and report non-conformances and assist with implementation and tracking of corrective actions.
- Verify calibration of inspection and testing equipment; report issues as needed.
- Maintain organized and accurate field documentation for audits, reviews, and quality records.
- Collaborate with construction crews, subcontractors, and third-party inspectors to resolve quality concerns in the field.
- Participate in quality meetings, safety briefings, and project-specific trainings as required.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Assist in preparation of quality submittals, reports, and other project documentation under direction of the Quality Manager.
- Support internal audits and assist with regulatory and client inspections.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Construction, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience in construction quality.
- 3+ years of field experience in construction quality inspection or materials testing.
- Knowledge of construction methods, quality standards, and industry codes.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and field documentation.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic reporting tools.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with field teams.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in geotechnical, environmental, or heavy civil construction.
- Certifications or willingness to obtain training in:
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER
- 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety
- USACE Construction Quality Management (CQM)
- EM 385-1-1
- Competent Person Training (e.g., Excavation, Confined Space)
Physical Demands & Work Environment This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions and demands may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather. Proper PPE, including protective eyewear, gloves, a hard hat, and steel-toed boots, is required. Effective communication, tool use, and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
