Job Description

This position will be based in Columbia, MO, at our new UMKC PA program distant campus located at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. The newly accredited campus will matriculate students in January 2026. The on-site team in Columbia will consist of faculty and staff members.

This position will provide advanced and specialized support for the Department of Graduate Health Professions in Medicine. Student Support Specialist II will work primarily with faculty and students in the Physician Assistant (PA) program. Student Support Specialist II will provide support services to faculty and students to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and program policies. Responsibilities include coordinating the extensive communication efforts necessary to maintain relationships with students, faculty, and external audiences; reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating student and faculty information necessary for the fulfillment of curricular requirements; monitoring, verifying, and maintaining student and faculty documentation; and preparing and maintaining appropriate electronic records, files, reports, and information. The responsibilities of this position include both collaborative and individual work assignments.

Our administrative team works with a diverse group of faculty comprised of physician assistants, anesthesiologist assistants, physicians, and basic medical scientists. The department is a fast-paced environment with multiple ongoing projects occurring at any given time. The applicant for this position should be able to work and maintain progress on multiple synchronous projects.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate communications involved with maintaining the department's relationships between students, faculty, and external audiences, such as university personnel, clinical sites, preceptors, and guest lecturers.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate records, files, and information in relation to student programs, standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Monitor and evaluate program information and documentation in relation to accreditation standards and policies.
  • Review, analyze, and process data from information sources, such as student evaluations, course evaluations, and clinical rotation evaluations for fulfillment of program and accreditation requirements.
  • Schedule and monitor multiple student evaluations.
  • Monitor and verify faculty documentation, licensure, and credentials.
  • Communicate and monitor student enrollment activities.
  • Communicate effectively in person, in writing, or via phone with students, clinical contacts, and other consumers to convey and exchange essential information and documents.
  • Assist with program-related activities such as recruitment, interviews, orientation, and special events.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Two to three years of previous program support experience. Experience in higher education or healthcare-related professional environment. Experience working with database systems.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and OneDrive applications. Professional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work and maintain progress on multiple projects.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary range: $17.05 - $18.28 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
