What do we do?
The Community Impact Specialist plays a fundamental role in ensuring that Trader Joe's remains a national chain of neighborhood stores by supporting our Store Managers (Captains) and Crew in the coordination of our long-standing donations program, also known as the Neighborhood Shares Program.

Trader Joe's is unlike any place you've ever worked. Trust us on that. The qualified candidate has at least 3 years of donation coordination, non-profit sector, and/or community relations experience and is a raving fan of the Trader Joe's concept. A Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred. This role is based in our office in Monrovia, CA and we have an in office expectation of 5 days a week.
The Community Impact Specialist is responsible for:
  • Supporting the execution of programs, events, and activities that advance Trader Joe's community giving initiatives, with a primary focus on maximizing our efforts to share unsellable food with appropriate community groups.
  • Maintaining guidelines for our Neighborhood Shares and donation programs.
  • Serving as a resource for Crew Members, providing support and guidance to ensure a successful, sustainable donations program.
  • Supporting stores with donation-based inquiries and working to legitimatize donations partners; maintaining a centralized database of records for every local organization that picks up donations from our stores.
  • Serving as a front-line liaison with our food donation partners; working closely with both the national network and local organizations to foster positive, productive relationships, ensuring our stores and partners are well supported.
  • Managing SB 1383 CA-state food waste compliance, supporting mandatory store requirements and donation reporting, in preparation for store inspections.
  • Assisting in various communications regarding donation requests from stores, customers, and partners.
  • Assisting in the verification of non-profit organizations; facilitating partner onboarding; organizing required Program/partner documentation.
  • Supporting the Manager of Community Impact with special projects, events, and committee-related activities as needed.
The Community Impact Specialist has:
  • 3+ years of experience in donation coordination, the non-profit sector, and/or community relations in a retail setting.
  • Experience managing large-scale projects.
  • Experience working within the charitable food system, food banking sector, and/or hunger-relief space.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Wood, and Excel, with digital savviness.
  • An aptitude for self directed work with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
