PAY GRADE: 410

PAY RATE: $84,898 - $104,000 Annually

JOB SUMMARY

Manage all aspects of the General Fund accounting operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgeting, month end processing, fiscal year-end reporting and audit support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Supervision/Management:

    1. Provide overall management and oversight to General Fund accounting activities.
    2. Provide financial consultation to General Fund department directors and staff as required, including researching and resolving questions.
    3. Supervise the General Fund Senior Accountant, General Fund Staff Accountant, and Accounts Payable Accountant.


  2. Planning and Administration:

    1. Ensure that the daily activities of the General Fund operate smoothly and efficiently.
    2. Oversee the documentation of workflows and procedures for General Fund accounting activities.
    3. Provide support to the Divisional Director of Finance as requested.


  3. Financial Services / Activities:

    1. Coordinate the development of the General Fund's annual operating budget.
    2. Assist with standard assessment calculations for budget preparations.
    3. Prepare and maintain standard assessments and journal entries.
    4. Contribute to the Quarterly Management report to THQ.
    5. Manage the monthly and year-end closing process, ensuring completion on a timely basis.
    6. Prepare monthly financial report, including variance analyses with explanations, for review by Divisional Headquarters Divisional Finance Board.
    7. Review, analyze and reconcile various general ledger accounts, including timely resolution of reconciling items.
    8. Oversee bank reconciliations monthly, including timely resolution of reconciling items.
    9. Review cash flow needs on a weekly basis, providing recommendations as required.
    10. Review and approve journal entries prepared by General Fund accounting staff and Peoria-based accounting staff as needed.
    11. Provide back up on banking relationships and online access / reporting capabilities.
    12. Provide assistance with THQ's consolidation process.
    13. Respond to internal audit requests as necessary.
    14. Other duties as assigned.

Successfully satisfy the training requirements associated to the position and as required by The Salvation Army.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Divisional Director of Finance.

This position supervises the General Fund Senior Accountant, General Fund Staff Accountant, and Accounts Payable Accountant. and provides operational support to other accounting staff, as needed.

In context related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Education:



  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field. In lieu of an Accounting degree, extensive experience in accounting will be considered.
  • A well-rounded accounting background in general ledger, financial analysis, budgeting, and supervisory experience is preferred.


Experience:



  • Minimum of eight (8) years' experience in accounting and financial analysis, preferably in a non-profit environment, with a demonstration of analytical ability
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office products: Word, Outlook and other PC-based accounting and financial reporting applications; and moderate to advanced skills in Excel.

JOB LIMITATIONS



  • This individual will only commit resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Divisional Director of Finance informed on all critical issues relating to his/her area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT



  • This position is required to do light to moderate physical work.
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
  • The work environment includes an office environment with a low noise level.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS



  • This position reports to the Divisional Director of Finance.
  • In context related to this position's duties, this individual will interact with a wide range of contacts both internal and external. In these contacts he/she will act as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.


PERFORMANCE MEASURES



  • This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved. Timeliness and accuracy of accomplishing assigned goals will be reviewed. An evaluation of how effective service is provided. Performance will also be determined by outcome information provided during weekly staff meetings and monthly reports.


POSITION LIMITATIONS



  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
