THE POSITION

The Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Health Statistics and Registries, Division of Statistical Registries is seeking a dedicated Registry Specialist. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Registry Specialist, you will implement and operate components of the statewide public health registries overseen by the Division of Statistical Registries. You will supervise the Special Services Unit and oversee compliance, data driven quality improvement, standardized practices, and program advancement. You will also support the Pennsylvania Birth, Death, Fetal Death, and Induced Termination of Pregnancy (ITOP) Registries and oversee timely collection of data for the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI). This role requires in-depth knowledge of the legal system including petitions, subpoenas, notices to defend, and court orders. In addition, you will monitor compliance with applicable statutes such as the Pennsylvania Vital Statistics Law of 1953, the Abortion Control Act, communicable disease reporting regulations, and policies that relate to the vital statistics registries.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. You may also be required to work on-site as dictated by operational and training needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview. This position will have two weeks minimum of mandatory on-site training.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience as a Registry Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) within the Pennsylvania Department of Health; or
  • One year of professional experience in health information management; or
  • Three years of technical experience in a health information registry; or
  • A bachelor's degree in health information management or a related field.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
