What Your Job Will Be Like:

Organization 05358 (Inertial Sensors & Surveillance) is seeking an enthusiastic R&D Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the design, troubleshooting, testing, qualification, and evaluation of innovative development units, while also addressing the needs of existing production units. As a successful candidate, you will be a self-directed and stakeholder-focused team member, actively engaging in the design and trade space assessment of new inertial sensor-based electronic products. You will collaborate closely with the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) Production Agency (PA) PRT, Sandia Design Agency (DA) PRT, and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to understand and influence functional and interface requirements, design elements, and production capabilities. Your insights will be crucial for diagnosing anomalies, proposing corrective actions, and assisting with unit dispositioning.

This role is designed for growth, providing you with the knowledge and experience to take on increasing responsibilities in future programs. You will have the opportunity to influence designs and requirements through effective communication of your findings and solutions, positioning yourself for advancement within the team. Your ability to collaborate, communicate, and interface with stakeholders will be vital to our collective success.

Please note that some travel will be required to support PRT and program meetings, production issues, testing, and other program needs.

Must be located at the New Mexico Site. (Relocation will be available to qualifying candidates)

Salary Range:

$114,000 - $227,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:



  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.



Qualifications We Desire:

The ideal R&D Electrical Engineering candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:



  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers.

  • Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling.



Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:



  • Experience working with lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, etc.

  • Experience with circuit design and troubleshooting

  • Experience with Nuclear Deterrence (ND) practices and procedures (e.g., RPPs, Engineering Authorization releases, etc.)

  • Experience working with production agencies (e.g., KCNSC) or production of War Reserve (WR) product

  • Experience in the qualification of WR products, including testing and documentation

  • Active DOE Q or DoD TS Security Clearance.



About Our Team:

Organization 5358 - The Inertial Sensors and Surveillance Department supports the development of inertial sensing devices and surveillance of Major Nuclear Deterrent (ND) Components. The department is currently focused on the development of the W93/Mk7 Path Length Module (PLM), SLCM-N Trajectory Sensing Signal Generator (TSSG), and provides ongoing production and surveillance support for the W88 Alt 370 and Mk21 PLMs. Additionally, the department regularly carries out stockpile surveillance and management required to maintain certain arming and fuzing electronic sub-systems in the active stockpile. The department supports all three legs of the nuclear weapons triad through SLBM, ICBM, and gravity delivered devices.

Posting Duration:
