The Underwriter will analyze health benefit plan characteristics and assess risks as to frequency and potential severity of losses of clients. The Underwriter will also utilize established underwriting criteria and policies to provide proper rating methodologies. Will build and maintain models to assist in the economic analysis of market alternatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Primary focus will be on a Local Market book of business
  • Work closely with Local Market Sales and Account Management staff to develop competitive financial responses for new and in-force Business, review claim experience, and apply underwriting guidelines to prepare prospective and/or renewal rates
  • Support Marketing in completing group experience retention illustrations and address questions on request for proposals
  • Provide technical subject matter expertise to the Local Market Sales and Account Management staff on new and renewal proposals

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or higher in Math, Finance, Business or relevant work experience
  • 1+ years of experience applying finance or mathematics principles in academic or professional setting
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office suite (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Proven analytical and quantitative reasoning skills, demonstrated through coursework in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field
  • Proven excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Math, Finance, Business or related degree
  • 2+ years of Group Benefits Underwriting or related experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $48,700 to $87,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
