POSITION SUMMARY Salary- 30.86 Under direct supervision, performs entry level technician assignments and provides assistance for higher level technician assignments. Arranges and conducts tests of various units and components of equipment and inspects vehicles under construction. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Visits various manufacturer's plants for prolonged periods of time and inspects bus, equipment, and component parts to determine if they are satisfactory and in compliance with specifications. Maintains a familiarity with all vehicles utilized by the Authority and current technology relative to vehicle equipment, machinery and other tools used in the Equipment Engineering Section. Assists in preparing specifications for vehicles, and their components parts. Assists in the preparations of drawings and sketches of equipment, units and components. Attends pre-production meetings along with CTA engineering staff to review equipment design, applications and installation and prepares official notes/minutes for such meetings. Performs related duties as assigned.

Required to be away from home for extended periods of time. Working with internal and external parties which may include vendors, international partners, operations, and front-line maintenance.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must possess a minimum of one (1) year of verifiable work experience in bus or rail car repair, modification, and/or construction, or applicable military experience, or a combination of education and experience relating to this position. Possession of a certificate/diploma in diesel engine vehicle repair from an accredited trade/vocational school or college will count as verifiable experience. Must have or be able to obtain a State of Illinois CDL driver's license. Required to submit to and pass drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration for safety sensitive positions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity, and fingering for working with computer keyboards. Required to physically work on top of, underneath or inside equipment while inspecting and conducting tests.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of the construction and operating characteristics of buses and related equipment. General knowledge of the construction and operating characteristics of vehicles and related equipment. General knowledge of the applications, maintenance, life expectancy and other qualities of the equipment used in the section. General knowledge in the preparation of detailed equipment engineering drawings, graphs and charts and correctly interpret detailed equipment and component part engineering specifications. General knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical principles. Intermediate mathematical and statistical skills. Intermediate computer skills using typical office PC software, including CTA vehicle Maintenance System (MMIS) and Oracle. Ability to work in bus shops and garages, and manufacturing and assembly plants. Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings and understand detailed technical specifications. Ability to write and express oneself in a clear, logical and comprehensible manner and maintain detailed logs and other documentation. Ability to maintain amiable working relations by possessing a suitable temperament, communication skills, and positive disposition.
WORKING CONDITIONS
General office environment. Work performed in bus shops and garages. Travels to and resides near manufacturing plants for prolonged periods of time. Exposed to conditions that are common to bus shops and garages and heavy industrial facilities.
