Accountant 4-Full Time Days (Hybrid)

Job Summary:

This position is primarily accountable for preparing and analyzing financial reports and other reliable information useful in making operational decisions. The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and co-workers.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Prepares entity and departmental level financial statements in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Reconciles sub-ledgers to general ledger account balances.
  • Reviews and analyzes all Balance Sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Analyzes reserves and accruals and makes necessary adjustments on a monthly basis.
  • Perform monthly income statement budget variance analysis
  • Assists in the design and preparation of budgets for review by management.
  • Provides support to operational managers explaining the data presented and/or providing additional detail as needed.
  • Reviews and/or prepares schedules or reports required for internal and external audits, tax preparation, and federal, state and local reporting.
  • Participates in Continuing Professional Education in order to keep abreast of current accounting practices and pronouncements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field required.
  • One of the following is also required:
    • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 5+ years of accounting experience.
    • CPA or CMA designation with 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with healthcare accounting standards and financial reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with Workday preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
