General Manager of Airport Operations- O'HARE

Department of Aviation

CDA - Facilities Section

Number of Positions: 1

Starting Salary: $112,440/ANNUALLY (BX-22)

Under direction, the class is managerial in nature planning and directing the operations of a functional area at O'Hare International Airport or Midway International Airport, and performs related duties as required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Directs, oversees, and coordinates skilled trades personnel across disciplines and management staff engaged in various phases of construction, repair, and maintenance work. Works with senior staff and design staff in planning, scheduling, and managing large scale in-house projects relating to the airport's infrastructure. Confers with professional engineers and architects for remodeling or remodeling projects requiring design services, construction drawings, or specifications or specialized work. Reviews and evaluates the work performance of supervisory personnel, recommending disciplinary action when needed. Coordinates and participates in human resources activities (e.g., interviewing, employee relations).

Directs and monitors training programs for Skilled Trades staff to ensure adherence with FAA regulations and department work requirements. Establishes, develops, and participates in operational budgeting process, including financial reports and the tracking of expenditures. Reviews work summaries submitted by supervisory staff and generates comprehensive activity reports. Serves as a liaison with airport tenants and responds to inquiries regarding the status of repairs and maintenance issues. Represents the department at meetings with federal, state, and local agencies. Manage and monitor airport O&M contracts, contractor performance, and participate in contract scope development, and provide feedback to contract supervisor as a Subject Matter Expert. Authorizes and approves the requisitioning of work materials, supplies, and equipment to complete work projects, monitors overtime; monitors progress and ensures projects remain within budget. Directs and monitors training programs for staff. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Nine (9) years of airport or airfield operations work experience, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; OR, Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in Business Administration, Aviation Management, or a directly related field, PLUS seven (7) years of airport or airfield operations work experience, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; OR, Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Aviation Management, or a directly related field, PLUS five (5) years of airport or airfield operations work experience, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; OR, Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher in Business Administration, Aviation Management, or a directly related field, PLUS four (4) years of airport or airfield operations work experience, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position

Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications

* A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required

* Must obtain airfield certification within three months of hire

NOTE: Candidates selected for hire must pass a Ground Motor Vehicle Operating Basic Driving test (Yellow Stripe) administered by the Chicago Department of Aviation within 90 days of hire.
