Job Description

Johnson County Library seeks engaged, qualified candidates to fill the position of Program Services Specialist. The Program Services Specialist serves as a support resource of the Johnson County Library Program Department, helping to implement and deliver programs through the logistical coordination and delivery of a program and its related activities. This individual is responsible for understanding program plans and intended outcomes established within the comprehensive Library program plan, and adhering to relevant policies, procedures, and standards when delivering programs. Applications will be accepted through the end of the day on September 9, 2025. Additional duties include:

    Supports coordination of a program and its activities including planning, delivery, and set up/clean up; manages room/facility and technology requests; prepares program materials; orders supplies for programs; coordinates with and supports volunteers assisting in Library programs; gathers program statistics and evaluations.
  • Supports the Program Manager, Program Coordinators, and the Program Operations Managers in designing programs for the organization; offers expertise, experience, and provides relevant program data.
  • Understands and effectively applies library policies and procedures as it pertains to executing programs in the library.
  • Works effectively with programming staff, branch services staff, and Customer Experience staff to promote programs, develop program descriptions, and maintain appropriate brand standards regarding program execution; promotes the library and its services within program settings; identifies opportunities for media relations, social media, etc., engaging the Program Operations Manager and communications resources, as necessary.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and other materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
  • Provides patron support and service in branches as needed.


Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

60 hours of college credit in any field of study is required.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in any field of study is preferred. Two (2) years of experience in public or interactive presentations or program delivery is also preferred.

Education/Experience Substitutions:

Experience may be substituted for education.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:

Lifting up to 25 pounds.

Local travel required up to 25% of the time.

All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
