The NC State Women's Center is housed under the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. Our work fosters a sense of community and belonging through intentional programming and services focused on supporting student success and retention. Through our high-impact practices centered on gender and interpersonal violence prevention and response, students of all gender identities expand their knowledge base, enhance their leadership skills, and explore opportunities for personal and professional growth and well-being, including receiving the affirming support and resources necessary to thrive at NC State.
The Assistant Director for Interpersonal Violence Prevention, Education, and Training ( ADIPVPET) works to create a campus community that prevents interpersonal violence, including sexual violence, domestic and dating violence, sexual harassment, and stalking. As part of this effort, the Assistant Director conducts and oversees coeducational programming and educational opportunities for students, faculty, and staff; advises student leaders engaged in IPV peer education programming; and provides survivor-centered and trauma-informed care and support services, as well as referrals, as needed

Specific responsibilities of the ADIPVPET include but are not limited to the following:
Programming + Strategic Campus Support:

  • Lead the development, planning, and implementation of IPV signature programs, campus support, and educational initiatives.
  • Apply project/program management best practices to ensure timely and effective implementation.
  • Evaluate programs using methods that align with Center goals and DASA assessment strategies and models.
  • Manage IPV program-specific campus and community partnerships.
  • Create spending plans and ensure alignment with appropriate financial controls, processes, and procedures.
  • Support strategic planning and goal implementation; participate in annual goal and objective setting; collect and provide regular evaluation results from related programs; participate in annual report preparation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant research, community climate data, trends, and student needs assessment.


Student Development:

  • Advertise for, hire, train, and provide ongoing support and guidance of student peer educators.
  • Supervise peer educators; develop and assign meaningful and appropriate academic and professional growth opportunities; provide feedback and performance evaluation.
  • Assign and monitor student hours based on available budget.
  • Train student staff on relevant reporting requirements, resource availability, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other units to design and develop student employee training and onboarding when appropriate.

Training and Community Building:

  • Create, deliver, and evaluate educational opportunities and presentations that align with the IPV work of the center, DASA, and University strategic goals, objectives and campus climate needs.
  • Provide IPV educational opportunities for faculty and staff via programs such as the Pack Survivor Support Alliance and other requested engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with campus partners (faculty and staff, Counseling Center, Prevention Services, etc.) to curate student-based IPV programs and support spaces; establish measures to identify support and educational needs; engage appropriate reporting in alignment with University processes and procedures.
  • Review and respond to IPV- related engagement requests.

Strategic Communication + Outreach:

  • In collaboration with the DASA Communications unit, develop and manage media and general marketing for IPV initiatives and programs; contribute to the Women's Center newsletter and other campus publications and outreach efforts.
  • Support the IPV Team in planning and executing outreach opportunities targeted to various student populations across campus.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an active member of the Women's Center staff.
  • Contribute to Women's Center budgeting, program development, and planning processes.
  • Assist with assessment, strategic planning, and execution of Women's Center activities and programs.
  • Collaborate with the Women's Center staff to hire/select professional and student staff.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Nature of position requires availability to serve in an on-call support role one week at a time every 4-6 weeks, as well as the potential for limited after hours activities.

Other Work/Responsibilities
Minimum Experience/Education

  • Master's degree in higher education, social work, women's studies, counselor education, or a related area of study.
  • Content-area knowledge including a thorough understanding of IPV prevention education, support, and ability to work with survivors of all genders, gender expressions, and sexual orientations


Department Required Skills

  • Demonstrated work or volunteer history of commitment to student development and knowledge of best practices for advising student leaders and student organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in program assessment, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with strategic planning.
  • Experience in creating program-level spending plans and adhering to best fiscal practices and procedures.
  • Supervision, advising, and/or volunteer management experience of student staff.
  • Experience, individually and collaboratively, in developing, facilitating, assessing/evaluating training, workshops, or presentations.


Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Experience with implementing outcome based student success programming within a higher education setting.
  • Advanced application of a trauma-informed approach/practice.
  • Demonstrated practical familiarity with discourse and theories about student success, well being, and other relevant concepts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining current and relevant knowledge of best practices in supporting students in an academic setting.
