Department Summary

The Pharma Technical Cell and Gene Therapy (PTC) organization at Genentech is a dynamic and mission-driven team dedicated to making life-changing medicines a reality for patients. As the critical link between scientific discovery and clinical application, PTC is responsible for developing, manufacturing, and supplying Genentech's cutting-edge cell and gene therapies. We are a team of technical experts, engineers, and scientists who are passionate about solving complex challenges to ensure our innovative therapies are safe, effective, and accessible to the patients who need them.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

Program Highlights

  • Six months, (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May or June2025.

The Opportunity

  • Understandings of processing and quality control of raw Nanopore sequencing data and single-cell sequencing data, ensuring data integrity and quality prior to analysis.

  • Develop and implement robust pipelines using Python and R for the processing and quality control of raw Nanopore sequencing data and single-cell sequencing data, ensuring data integrity and quality prior to analysis.

  • Conduct complex analyses of single-cell and long-read data, including cell type clustering, differential gene expression, trajectory inference, and specialized Nanopore analyses such as base modification detection and structural variant calling.

Candidates applying for the PTDU/PTCC Intern Program should be passionate about science/engineering and thoroughly enjoy the challenges associated with complex problem-solving. Candidates must be highly self-motivated and able to work effectively as individuals and as part of multi-disciplinary teams in an atmosphere of casual intensity to develop medicines for unmet medical needs.

Who You Are

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Master's degree OR
  • Must have attained a Master's degree no more than 2 years ago.

Required Majors

  • Biology & Biomedical Science, Biomedical Engineering, and Computer Science with a Life Sciences focus, or related disciplines.

Required Skills

Python and R for the processing and quality control of raw Nanopore sequencing data and single-cell sequencing data, ensuring data integrity and quality prior to analysis.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Basic understanding of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data and quality filtering of NGS data.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
