National Grid is hiring a Manager, Capital Project Delivery for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations. Job Purpose
Lead the team of construction experts to ensure large capital Substation and Transmission Line Construction projects are adequately reviewed for safety, constructability, outage coordination, risk, cost, schedule and quality during the scoping, permitting and design process. Provide leadership and direction to workforce to ensure safe, efficient delivery of OPEX/CAPEX business plans Key Accountabilities
* Oversee the operational workload of construction planners within department as well as contractors supporting the department; ensuring allocated staff are fully utilized in order to execute projects in accordance with company policies, legal requirements and specifications. * Partner with Engineering/Project Development to develop a detailed construction plan that involves planned outages, construction phases, construction steps, material and equipment requirements, staffing requirements, laydown areas, access/matting, and overall time scheduling with final ready for load dates that align with the project plan * Work closely with Resource Planning to Implement Construction Planning strategies/initiatives and coordinate both internal and external construction resources to optimize capital work in 100% compliance with safety, quality, and cost control requirements. * Work with various stakeholders to ensure that customer commitments can be achieved for both small distributed generation projects (DG) and large generator interconnections (LGIA). * Partner with estimators and analysts to translate business objectives into clearly defined project target cost estimates and earned value reports in order to support achievement of departmental/operational area and achieve greater value for expenditures. * Partner with Substation and Transmission Line Construction groups to ensure the construction plan is understood by the team implementing the plan. * Challenge existing processes and continuously seek ways to do things better in order to drive greater efficiencies for the business * Drive a safer environment for contractors, employees and the public consistent with company goals, objectives and policies in full compliance with existing and future government codes and regulations. (SF3) * Liaise with construction supervisors, project managers, estimators, and third party vendors to deliver project dependencies, progress and outstanding challenges. * Translate functional policy into processes and procedures that drive greater efficiencies for National Grid and ensure compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental regulatory standards/legislation/governance. Understand collective bargaining agreements that could impact work plan delivery * Review health and safety plans for each specific project, Inclusive of Project Hazard Assessment (PHA) for high hazard work practices. * Partner with legal and real estate groups for any challenges that are presented in project execution along rights of ways and company owned property where new or existing facilities could be developed. * Partner with environmental engineers to ensure project plan complies with environmental guidlines and permits. * Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to do thigs better in order to drive greater efficiencies within assigned areas. Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Design Engineering or 5 to 8 years of equivalent experience in the electricity construction management environment with 3 to 5 years in the utility management * Broad knowledge of OH Transmission Line and Substation project implementation and possess team leadership skills. * Understanding of Electric Operating Procedures, NG Transmission Construction Standards, Environmental Best Management Practices (BMP's), Project Management Playbook, Outage Coordination Timelines, and basic electric safety rules. * Knowledge of electric equipment and materials, electric theory, and transmission line and substation construction practices. * Experience in coordination of projects and a construction workforce with focus on construction methods, cost control, safety, environmental, quality and service, and performance. Demonstrated knowledge and application of Safety and Environmental rules. * Proficiency in Windows based applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc) * Strong administrative and organizational skills * Analytical Thinking: Sees relationships between work plans, safety issues, constructability, and spend vs. efficiency reports identifying several likely causes or consequences of a situation. * Conceptual Thinking: Sees patterns or trends in construction reporting and actual outcomes, notices when something is similar to a past situation. * Strong influencing and negotiating skills. * Excellent communication skills. * Strong PC and business applications knowledge to facilitate full leveraging of technology solutions in the construction work environment. More Information Salary - $154,000 - $181,000 This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
