Pay Range

$111,600 - $136,656 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary range in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Job Description

We have an opening for a Training Instructor Supervisor. In this role, you will lead the staff and daily operations responsible for delivering the training and supervision of armed uniformed staff involved with the physical security of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and facility operations for a 24/7 operation at two sites (Sites 200 and 300). You will be the subject matter expert and leader for response to a variety of security incidents (e.g., active shooter, barricaded suspects, theft, or sabotage of nuclear material, etc.). You will provide guidance and technical direction to a team of Training Instructors / Sergeants, assist in identifying training requirements, conduct classroom and field security operations training, and coordinate related administrative activities. Work will be performed at the Livermore Site and Site 300 and will frequently require irregular, or off-shift work schedules. This position reports to the Training Group Leader and is responsible for collaborating and developing a strong working relationship with the Protective Force Operations Group Leader and Division Leader.You will oversee members of a collective bargaining agreement.This position is in the Security Organization (SO).

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will

  • Assist in the implementation and delivery of Protective Force (PF) training programs under the direction of senior management.
  • Mentor and guide Sergeants and Officers to develop their technical and tactical competencies and expertise; ensure operational readiness in alignment with continual training and testing regimen; provide input to, conduct, and participate in tabletop drills; and conduct and participate in emergency response training and testing.
  • Evaluate and assess PF training and communicate results with key stakeholders to ensure compliance and best practices in partnership with the PFD Operations Group Leader.
  • Supervise staff to include mentoring, training, career development, disciplinary actions, performance appraisals, providing rating recommendations; participate in interview/hiring process; commit staffing and equipment for specialized operations.
  • Provide input to senior management on relevant security operations training requirements and make appropriate recommendations to improve PF tactical readiness and response efforts, and field implementation of DOE orders and personnel.
  • Interpret DOE Orders and LLNL policies to assist in the development of policies and procedures to ensure compliance; write/develop policies and procedures; analyze and provide input to SO policies and procedures and the Site Security Plan in coordination in management; develop and implement tactical plans, security plans, policies; analyze testing scenarios to ensure viability.
  • Develop and maintain test plans, protocols, and criteria for evaluating training effectiveness; recommend and implement improvements based on assessment results.
  • Coordinate administrative activities related to training, including maintaining training records, preparing reports, and ensuring readiness for audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance of active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.

  • BS/BA degree in a security-related field or equivalent levels of related education and experience in security, military, or law enforcement.
  • Ability to successfully complete Department of Energy (DOE) National Training Center (NTC) Basic Instructor Training, Firearms Instructor Certification, and Intermediate Force Instructor Certification, and Tactical Response Force I Certification.
  • Complete knowledge and experience of DOE Orders, or equivalent, and security procedures for multiple areas within a security discipline (e.g., traffic safety, access control, alarm functions, response plans and rules, and positions within PFD field operations).
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills required to provide technical guidance and coordination for training activities and maintain an effective team; e effective interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive issues with tact, discretion, and maturity.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of PF security operations and comprehensive tactical knowledge/experience to train, evaluate, and assess tactical response methods that align with the PF mission and protection strategy; experience developing and writing clear, concise policies, procedures, reports, and other documentation
  • Experience interpreting audit requirements and conducting self-assessments and developing/implementing corrective actions to meet and maintain compliance.
  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills, strong attention to detail, problem solving skills with experience identifying and researching alternatives or solutions to obstacles.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present, direct, negotiate, influence and coordinate with various levels of personnel, NNSA, and other government agencies.
  • Proficiency with personal computers with intermediate to advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite applications.

Site 300

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

Security Clearance

This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
