Position Highlights The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix (College) invites applications for the chief for the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics. This is an opportunity for an outstanding clinical and academic leader with a national/international reputation as a respected and accomplished fellowship-trained maternal fetal medicine specialist, academician, educator and collaborator.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) is experiencing a period of clinical and academic growth under the leadership of Dr. Rosanne Kho, a recognized leader in gynecologic surgery and clinical investigation. The department currently hosts 36 residents, 3 maternal fetal medicine fellows and 2 minimally invasive gynecologic surgery fellows. Faculty provide clinical services and mentor trainees at the Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix (B-UMCP), the new Arcadia Clinic and other Banner facilities. Mirroring the growth in population in the Phoenix metropolitan area, the department is experiencing rapid extension of the clinical enterprise with year-over-year increases of surgical volume, clinic visit volumes and hospital deliveries.

The division chief of maternal fetal medicine and obstetrics will be responsible for the planning, policy development, operations and oversight of the academic, research and the clinical programs of maternal fetal medicine, high risk OB hospitalists and obstetrics service lines. In strategic consultation with the department chair, College, Banner - University Medical Group (B-UMG) and B-UMCP, the division chair will direct the recruitment and retention of faculty and development of centers of excellence within the division.

This position reports directly to the chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology within the College of Medicine - Phoenix for all academic activities. Consistent with the Academic Affiliation Agreement (AAA) between the University of Arizona and Banner Health, the division chief will have a matrix reporting relationship to the CEO of B-UMG and CEO of B-UMCP for all clinical activities conducted at B-UMCP.

The successful candidate should be an accomplished physician leader in the field, fellowship-trained in maternal fetal medicine and have a track record of publications and funding in basic science and/or clinical research. They will work alongside the chair and focus their efforts on a strategic tripartite mission of excellence in clinical care, research and education. As division chief, the candidate will be a nurturing mentor to faculty and trainees by providing ongoing guidance and support of their professional development. They must be a respected leader who is experienced with operations and be clinically active and knowledgeable of cutting-edge medicine. The candidate must be viewed by stakeholders as an effective leader who will guide the division and hospital system through historic changes that will positively impact the delivery of obstetric care in the region.

The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as physician lead
    overseeing the maternal fetal medicine, and
    obstetric program in the College and B-UMCP.
  • Set the policies, quality
    metrics and strategic goals of the obstetric program within the department
    and hospital system.
  • Build specialized and
    comprehensive programs in gynecologic care.
  • Build internal and external
    relationships to inspire and promote collaborations across the health
    system.
  • Promote and provide a teaching
    environment of the highest quality and integrity.
  • Foster clinical and research
    programs of national distinction through innovation and interdisciplinary
    collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess an MD or
    equivalent degree from an accredited instruction.
  • Be eligible for a University of
    Arizona academic appointment at the associate professor level or higher.
  • Be board certified (or
    participating in Maintenance of Certification (MOC) if lapsed) in Obstetrics
    and Gynecology or related specialty.
  • Have subspecialty training and
    certification in maternal fetal medicine
  • Be eligible for unrestricted
    medical licensure in the State of Arizona and for medical staff membership
    at B-UMCP.
  • Demonstrate experience in the
    development and successful implementation of new educational programs.
  • Be a recognized physician
    leader in the field with strong communication skills.

* Be a willing collaborator with colleagues outside of the division and department.

* Experience with funded research and developing research portfolio for the division and department.
