What to Expect
The Automation Industrial Engineer plays a pivotal role in enhancing Tesla's manufacturing efficiency by designing and optimizing automation lines in collaboration with equipment suppliers and integrators. This position focuses on critically evaluating production line assembly concepts, ensuring cost-effectiveness in supplier RFQs, and implementing innovative automation solutions to reduce cycle times and labor dependency. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, this role drives significant cost reductions and operational improvements across manufacturing processes.
What You'll Do
- Partner with internal Tesla engineers to gather automation project requirements and create detailed RFQ documentation
- Collaborate with equipment integrators to design and refine assembly lines, tooling, and automation equipment for maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Perform thorough reviews of production line assembly concepts in RFQs to automate labor-intensive processes and prevent supplier overcharging
- Lead the identification and integration of automation solutions to minimize manual labor and boost production efficiency
- Drive cost savings through accurate RFQ assessments, process optimization, and elimination of unnecessary expenses
- Utilize SolidWorks and CATIA to review and improve line designs, CAD models, and simulations to meet cost and efficiency standards
- Apply deep knowledge of manufacturing processes and cost structures to enhance productivity and reduce expenses
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of experience in the automation industry as a mechanical design engineer or applications engineer
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Extensive experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, and UGNX, including the ability to design fixtures and stations
- Proven track record of owning automation assembly line project designs
- Strong expertise in manufacturing processes, assembly line design, and cost management
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with equipment integrators and optimize production line tools and systems
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel up to 30% of the time

Expected Compensation
$131,440 - $236,160/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
