Job Summary
Lead Resident Assistants (LRA) serve in a required live in position to assist the day-to-day operations and develop a conducive living and learning environment for residents and student staff of a specific residence hall/complex This position is part-time and requires 15-20 hours a week Hours will vary and include night/weekend hours and RA duty LRA positions are one-year academic appointments Current LRAs must re-apply each academic year to be considered for an LRA position Duties and Responsibilities: -Create a positive and welcoming environment for all residents -Responsible for the oversight of 35-60 residents in their community -Work with campus and community partners through the creation and implementation of the residential curricular model This includes assisting with paperwork related to the -planning and approval of initiatives hosted by resident assistants -Stay informed of resident concerns, serve as an advocate, report concerns to a supervisor in a timely manner -Must be knowledgeable of and follow the University and department policies and procedures; and help residents to understand these policies and procedures -Fulfill a variety of administrative responsibilities in a timely manner -Participate in weekly staff meetings, meetings with supervisors, trainings and other departmental events/initiatives -Hold office hours in the residence hall and conduct check in meetings with resident assistants -Assist in the opening and closing of their assigned residence hall -Serve a mediator and address low level staff and resident conflicts when necessary -Work in conjunction with supervisors to advance community engagement and development including: serving a resource/guide to hall staff, addressing student behavior and building trends, and administrative tasks -Co-facilitate staff meeting and team development activities with supervisors -Serve on the RA level duty rotation each semester -Assist in the on-boarding and training of new hall staff during departmental and in-hall trainings -Support hall council meeting, activities, and encouraging resident involvement Minimum Qualifications: -Must have lived on-campus at FIU (MMC or BBC) or any college institution for at least one semester (Fall, Spring or Summer) before starting the position -Enrolled as a full-time (12-18 hours) undergraduate or full-time (9 hours) graduate student at FIU and making progress towards graduation -Undergraduate students must have a 25 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintain a 25 cumulative and semester GPA for the duration of their employment -Graduate students must have a 30 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintain a 30 cumulative and semester GPA for the duration of their employment Grade checks will be completed at the end of every semester -Must be and remain in good standing with the Department and University, including no significant or recent student conduct history All Housing Student Assistants will consent to conduct checks prior to hiring and at the end of every semester -Have a good student conduct record, defined as not having been involved in serious violations or incidents (including marijuana, alcohol, and physical violence), not be a repeat offender of policy violations, and not have received housing exclusion status Living Arrangements: By nature of the position, the LRA is required to live on campus and therefore, is provided with private accommodation Contract Dates/Break Periods: Student housing remains open year-round The LRA appointment will begin in May or August and end in the first week of May All student staff are required to participate in break duty * Must meet all Florida International University student employment eligibility requirements, including a Level 2 Background Check and Fingerprinting

Desired Qualifications: -Minimum of 1 year (2 semesters) or at least 2 years (4 semesters) of experience working as a Resident Assistant -Exhibit a positive, caring, and helpful attitude, effective time management, confrontation skills, and ability to leas others -Prior knowledge of residential living- learning philosophy is preferred -An appreciation for diversity and working with a multicultural student population

- Students enrolled at FIU, who have been awarded Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their Financial Aid Award package.
- Student must be enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours in a course of study leading to a degree or a Financial Aid eligible certificate, during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
- Upon credits decreasing, award being canceled, or graduating, FWS employment must end.
Work Schedule
Work Schedule: -RAs live where they work and fulfill the responsibilities of the position at various times during the week (days, evenings, weekends and some holidays) -The RA position requires RAs to participate in an on-call duty rotation, and while on call RAs are not permitted to leave the area they are assigned to work -Limit evening commitments and not enroll in classes that start after 4:30pm on more than two (2) evenings per week -RAs are expected to be in their RA room between 11:00pm -7:30am (Sunday nights - Friday mornings) and 1:00am - 7:30am (Saturday mornings & Sunday mornings) -Must be available every Thursday from 3:30pm - 5:00pm at MMC during the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters for departmental and staff meetings RAs are not permitted to take classes during this time
