Job Overview

The Assistant Sports Performance Coach (Strength and Conditioning Coach) is responsible for the developing and administering Sports Performance programs for Georgetown University Student-Athletes. Under the direction and guidance of the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Performance, the Assistant Sports Performance Coach will design, implement, evaluate, report, collaborate, and educate all facets of the Sports Performance program improve the overall athletic performance of the GU Student-Athletes. Additionally, the Assistant Sports Performance Coach will work with the GU Sports Medicine, and Physical Therapist staff to ensure appropriate measures are taken to help decrease injury and improve performance. Globally, the Assistant Sports Performance Coach will help to assist all aspects of the GU Athletic Department to ensure the overall health and safety of the Student-Athletes. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Implement Sports Performance programs to enhance the Student-Athlete performance in a positive manner while also focusing on injury prevention. Monitoring and evaluating progress and adjusting to accommodate performance strategies and goals
  • Instruct and coach proper technique in the following areas but not limited to: strength, speed, conditioning, agility, plyometrics, mobility, flexibility, and safety measures
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with Student-Athletes, Sport Coaches and Sports Administration to ensure Student-Athlete health and wellness and safety
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with the GU Athletic Training Staff and the Medical Team to ensure Student-Athlete health and wellness and safety
  • Administer, evaluate, analyze, report, and educate on all aspects of appropriate physical testing of the Student-Athletes
  • Administer, evaluate, analyze, report, and educate on all aspects of appropriate Sports Science data collection of the Student-Athletes.
  • Attend all GU Sports Performance and Athletic Department Staff Meetings.
  • Adhere to the Georgetown University, Athletic Department, and Sports Performance policies and procedures as well as the National Collegiate Athletic Association rules and compliance.
  • Assist in the overall daily operations and supervision of the TAC (Thompson Athletic Center) weight room
  • Assist in the development, supervision, and evaluation of the Volunteer, Internship, and College-Level Internship programs.
  • Conduct educational sessions and workshops for student-athletes, coaches, and staff on topics related to the Sports Performance enhancement industry, injury prevent, and overall well-being
  • Stay informed and current on the latest advancements in Sports Performance and related fields


Work Interactions

The Sports Performance Coach reports directly to the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Performance. The Associate Athletic Director of Sports Performance reports to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree - Master's degree preferred
  • 2 years of strength and conditioning experience, preferably at NCAA Division I level
  • Holding a current certification in one or both of the NCAA preferred certifications - NSCA-CSCS, CSCCa-SCCC
  • Holding a current certification in First Aid, CPR/AED
  • Preferred holding at least one additional relevant certification such as; NASM, USAW, NSCA TSAC, ISSA, NCSF
  • Experience coaching proper technique in weight lifting, speed, agility, plyometrics, and mobility drills and knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Exercise Science, anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, nutrition, and psychology.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Performance, the Director of Sports Performance, as well as the Head of Sports Science, the incumbent would create and organize an effective and comprehensive Sports Performance program to adhere to the Student-Athletes, Sports Team, and Sports Coaches goals.
  • Knowledge of the following but not limited: strength, speed, conditioning, agility, plyometrics, mobility, flexibility, and safety measures.
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to demonstrate effective communication with student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and athletic administration.
  • Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiar with Sports Science and data collection methods pertaining to but not limited to strength, speed, conditioning, agility, and mobility
  • Familiar with the Rules and Regulations of the NCAA
  • Familiar with Vald Force Plate, Teambuildr, and Tendo Units

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$44,022.00 - $73,406.80

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
