Marcus Corporation is in search of a Payroll Manager to join our Corporate Shared Services team. The Payroll Manager will lead the management and administration of the organization's payroll function and is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payroll in compliance with company policies and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The right individual for this role must enjoy working in a fast paced and deadline oriented environment where accuracy is a must. This opportunity is based out of our corporate office in downtown Milwaukee.

What you will be doing:

  • Plans, organizes, and assigns work; supervises and participates in payroll operations.
  • Administers all components of the payroll system.
  • Develops work plans independently and oversees the work progress of payroll staff.
  • Ensures the accurate recording of time through regular audits, training, and quality control.
  • Interprets and applies federal, state, and local laws, as well as internal policies and procedures, to maintain compliance and equity.
  • Hires, trains, and develops payroll staff while fostering engagement and professional growth.
  • Refers complex legal compliance matters to appropriate leadership.
  • Prepares and manages the payroll department budget; monitors and controls expenditures.
  • Develops and implements survey tools and system reviews to evaluate payroll effectiveness.
  • Tracks progress toward departmental goals through data analysis; adjusts plans as needed.
  • Oversees payroll tax compliance and all related reporting.
  • Serves as the primary contact for internal and external audits of payroll processes.
  • Advises managers on payroll deductions related to benefit programs; communicates changes as needed.
  • Prepares regular and ad hoc reports on payroll metrics, system updates, and compliance issues.
  • Recommends improvements to payroll policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of associate payroll records.
  • Coordinates payroll activities across Accounting, Human Resources, Enterprise/IT, and other departments.
  • Participates in cross-functional meetings, special projects, and committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll processing experience required.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a payroll or related function preferred.
  • Strong administrative and database management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as they relate to payroll.
  • Availability to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to work onsite 5 days per week at corporate office.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at meeting strict deadlines in high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and demonstrates high ethical standards.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
