Communications Student Office Assistant

Job Description

Title: Communications Student Office Assistant (UI Student Position; S700)

Hours: Flexible, up to 20 hours per week, typically between 8 a.m. & 5 p.m., M-F

Pay: $13.00/hour

Basic Function and Responsibility:

Supports the Ophthalmology Communications Specialist by assisting with items such as social media posts; providing photography support; helping with publication of biweekly newsletter, including gathering and organizing submissions, as well as editing; providing support in maintaining the Ophthalmology intranet; and aiding in the backup of external hard drives/filing/archiving.

Supervision Received:

Supervision received from the Ophthalmology Communications Specialist.

Required Qualifications:



  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and external entities.
  • Experience managing social media on various platforms (Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook), and a basic understanding of best practices for audience and engagement, both creating content and posting content
  • Experience in an office setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (OneDrive, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word).


  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to track, collect, and coordinate content from multiple sources.



Desired Qualifications:



  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign).
  • Basic photography skills, including experience with DSLR or mirrorless cameras and editing tools (e.g. Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop).
  • Basic web editing and development skills, including familiarity with HTML, CSS, and content layout best practices.
  • Experience in digital archiving.



The department is seeking a student with availability to start this position early fall 2025.
