Job Title: Fire Alarm Supervisor (Electronics Specialist IV)

Job Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled fire alarm professional to lead critical life safety operations at a major research university. As the Fire Alarm Supervisor, you will oversee system reliability and emergency response across the CU Anschutz campus. This role is vital to the protection of students, staff, research, and facilities, and offers the chance to work on high-impact duties, respond to real-time emergencies, and manage a dedicated team of technicians. You'll collaborate with Facilities, Risk Management, and Project Managers, exterior Fire Alarm vendors and more to ensure compliance, support campus events, and uphold a high standard of safety and service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee inspection, maintenance, programming, and repair of fire alarm systems and life safety components.

  • Lead and supervise the Fire Alarm Technician team, including scheduling, training, and performance management.

  • Respond to alarm activations, system faults, repairs/troubleshooting of alarm systems, including after-hours incidents.

  • Manage the AED and fire extinguisher programs, ensuring compliance and equipment readiness.

  • Collaborate on fire alarm plan reviews, special events, drills, outages, and system upgrades.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least four (4) years of technical experience repairing, performing maintenance, inspecting, testing, installing, modifying, calibrating, certifying, or fabricating equipment related to fire alarms and systems and/or fire/life safety equipment.

Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NICET II Certification or higher

  • Edwards Systems Technology (EST) Factory Fireworks certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of fire alarm systems including initiating devices, notification appliances, control panels, and supervisory components.

  • Working knowledge of NFPA and ICC (IFC, IBC) codes, and other applicable fire codes, standards, and regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics.

  • Proficient with emergency response protocols related to fire alarm system failures or activations.

  • Ability to supervise technical staff, including assigning work, providing guidance/professional development, and evaluating performance.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage preventive maintenance, inspections, and emergency repairs.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact with team members, vendors, and campus stakeholders. Ability to utilize Microsoft products to communicate (email) and create/retain documents (word, excel, teams, etc.).

  • Proficiency in using work order, asset management systems and other software's related to building system maintenance and operations (e.g., Maximo, Building Reports, etc.).

  • Physical ability to walk long distances on campus, lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or elevated areas as required.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as: $6,993 - $8,327 per month ($83,916 - $99,92 per year).

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

If you have prior state-classified service in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.
