The Role: As a R&D Systems Engineer you will be responsible for new product definition, system level design and system architecture for Edwards' CTI and Polycold product lines. You will integrate new cryogenic, refrigeration and vacuum technologies to develop innovative solutions for the semiconductor and diffuse market customers. Main Responsibilities:
- Develop algorithms enabling new features for current and future systems
- Define product requirements with marketing and applications teams based on performance, process, and compliance needs
- Model systems to evaluate design tradeoffs in performance, cost, quality, and reliability
- Define and decompose system-level requirements to subsystems and components
- Assess technology maturity and feasibility for integration into new products
- Provide technical leadership across multi-disciplinary teams through design and development
- Stay current on cryogenic and regulatory advances; represent Edwards in industry groups
- Support Test Engineering with test strategies, data analysis, verification, and compliance
- Contribute to technical literature and support materials for new refrigeration/vacuum technologies
- Identify and apply technologies from third parties and the Edwards/Atlas Copco network
It goes without saying that you'll:
- Hold a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent with 4+ years of industry experience,
or a Master's degree with 2+ years of experience - Have a strong background in one or more of the following:
- Thermodynamic systems
- Heat transfer
- Fluid dynamics
- Controls and instrumentation
- Industrial automation
- Demonstrate the ability to work in matrixed teams and communicate complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders
- Work well in cross-functional teams and build consensus across engineering groups
- Possess strong analytical, creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills

- Are familiar with engineering standards and regulations (e.g., SEMI, ASHRAE, UL, CE, PED, ASME)
- Are proficient with process/system simulation tools (e.g., Aspen, ChemCAD)
- Have experience with system modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Modelica)
- Understand 2D/3D finite element modeling for mechanical and thermal analysis
- Have experience using requirements management tools (e.g., Jama or similar)
- Are familiar with industry-standard communication protocols
- Are comfortable with statistical methods like hypothesis testing, DOE, and SPC
