Senior, Ceded Reinsurance - Claims

The Senior full-time position sits within the Ceded Reinsurance Department, leading Argo's end-to-end reinsurance strategy from execution of placement to recovery of collections from our counterparties.

The Ceded Re - Operations team plays a vital role throughout the reinsurance life cycle. The team performs a variety of responsibilities in a collaborative manner to support claim noticing requirements, complex coverage issues, and ultimate collection of Argo's reinsurance recoverables.

Due to the diverse nature of work, the role offers substantial personal and professional growth. The individual will have the opportunity to work on a highly visible team with key leaders across Argo Group and the marketplace, gain valuable basic and advanced reinsurance knowledge, and help reshape claims procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaison to internal and external partners for ceded claims inquiries
  • Develop and enhance new processes to optimize efficiency
  • Identify, review, and confirm reinsurance coverage for losses across all lines of business
  • Provide claims reporting and noticing to brokers and markets
  • Secure the timely and accurate settlement of reinsurance claims
  • Manage resolution of any reinsurance claims dispute
  • Create upper management reports to track and trend open ceded recoverables
  • Coordinate counterparty reinsurance audits
  • Mentor staff, sharing knowledge and building a culture of continuous improvement
  • Ensure adherence to SOX controls and assist with audits/financial reporting
  • Ad hoc projects and additional duties as assigned

Reporting Relationship

  • Reports to Director of Ceded Operations

Qualifications and Skills

  • Self-motivated individual with an ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Confident communicator at all levels of the organization and marketplace
  • Base knowledge of insurance / reinsurance concepts
  • General understanding of regulatory compliance and SOX requirements
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other industry software
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or related equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years of related work experience in claims, reinsurance claims, reinsurance, reinsurance operations or reinsurance accounting
  • Prior claims experience is a bonus

The base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. In addition to base salary, all employees are eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.

  • Base Salary Range: $105k - $120k
