FlexStaff is seeking a Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager for our client, an artisanal baked goods manufacturer located in the Bronx.

- Salary Range: $105,000 - $125,000 (based on experience)
Position Overview The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager will take ownership of all food safety, quality, and compliance programs for our facility. This is a hands-on role managing programs and also actively participating in daily tasks such as plant inspections, documentation, and training. The role requires deep knowledge of food safety standards (SQF, RSPO, HACCP, GMPs), FDA and Department of Agriculture regulations, consumer-facing label requirements, and raw material specifications-preferably within the bakery industry. You will lead customer and third-party audits and ensure our products consistently meet the highest quality standards. In addition to food safety, you will be responsible for workplace safety compliance, including Fire Department and OSHA requirements. Responsibilities
- Maintain, implement, and improve the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) in compliance with SQF, RSPO, HACCP, GMPs, FDA, USDA, and other applicable regulations.
- Actively prepare for and lead successful customer-required audits, third-party certifications, and regulatory inspections-participating directly in pre-audit walk-throughs, document preparation, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with all consumer-facing label requirements, including ingredient statements, allergen declarations, nutrition panels, and claims.
- Complete and maintain all required food safety and quality documentation on a daily basis.
- Deliver in-person employee training on food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety; follow up on training effectiveness.
- Regularly inspect production lines and work areas to ensure compliance and proactively address issues.
- Serve as the primary contact for customer QA teams, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with Fire Department, OSHA, and other safety-related requirements.
- Review product quality regularly, conduct sensory and physical inspections, and resolve quality issues promptly.
- Work closely with production, sanitation, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot and correct any safety or quality concerns.
- Lead or assist in root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
- Maintain strong knowledge of raw materials, especially those used in bakery manufacturing, and ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of food safety/quality experience in food manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
- Proven experience with SQF, RSPO, HACCP, GMPs, FDA, USDA regulations, and passing third-party and customer audits.
- Strong knowledge of consumer-facing label requirements and compliance.
- Familiarity with bakery manufacturing processes and raw material specifications strongly preferred.
- Understanding of OSHA, fire safety compliance, and workplace safety programs.
- Comfortable working in a small team and taking a hands-on approach to daily tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to balance long-term program management with urgent, on-the-floor issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management systems.
