The American Red Cross is hiring for two Data Scientists- Generative AI

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:
The Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) group supports almost every line of business at the American Red Cross. In the EDA Data Science group, we use Red Cross data to create modern, impact-focused data science products.

As a Data Scientist focused on generative AI in the EDA Data Sciences group, you'll be responsible for supporting the organization's generative AI needs within a highly complex data environment. You'll provide business value through developing and maintaining new generative AI solutions, building generative AI workflows, working with infrastructure teams to implement those solutions in our cloud environments, and collaborating frequently with business stakeholders. You'll apply specialized technical expertise to execute projects of high complexity, scope, size and/or risk that support business needs across the organization. The successful candidate will have a strong background in both generative AI development and off-the-shelf generative AI products. This position may serve as a lead on projects and will assist in identifying new business needs and providing training and guidance on generative AI topics to other staff.

The work location for this position is 100% virtual/work from home. While the position can be worked from anywhere in the United States, the preferred work hours are on an East Coast schedule.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
* Design, develop, and maintain generative AI solutions to support enterprise use cases.
* Collaborate with other data scientists, engineers, and product teams to integrate generative AI solutions into business applications.
* Monitor the performance of generative AI tools. Contribute to documentation, code reviews, and knowledge sharing with other Red Cross Data Science teams and stakeholders across the enterprise.
* Collaborate with the AI literacy team to provide generative AI training and guidance to other staff.

Scope: Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Apply subject matter knowledge. Capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):
Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, quantitative social science, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience in machine learning or data science, with at least 1 year working directly on generative AI projects.

Skills & Abilities:
* Solid working knowledge of generative AI techniques and tools, with hands-on experience developing and deploying generative AI tools in production environments.
* The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical proficiency, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to translate complex AI concepts into practical business solutions.
* Expert-level proficiency in Python
* Solid understanding of transformer architectures, LLMs, and generative model training or fine-tuning
* Expertise in evaluating performance, security, and bias for generative AI tools
* Strong foundation in prompt engineering best practices, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and vector databases Ability to develop and troubleshoot analytics workflows within complex data ecosystems
* Proficiency with general database concepts and SQL
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to articulate analytical insights/complex findings in a clear and concise manner
* Experience using containers with continuous integration and deployment (CICD) technologies
* Experience working in an Agile environment preferred

The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.

PAY INFORMATION:
The annual salary range for this position is $115K - $125K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role.

Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.**

This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.
