Job Summary
Manages the delivery of services relating to multiple technologies in one or more of the following information technology areas: system administration, network support, operating systems support, systems design and/or implementation, telecommunications systems, or user/client services.
Essential Functions

  • Supervises and provides highly complex technical design, implementation, maintenance, system administration, and support of hardware, software, network, and/or instructional technology.
  • Supervises and provides end-user support through consultation and advising, problem identification and resolution, training, and preparation/maintenance of documentation.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of IT policies, procedures, methods and tools for area of responsibility, consistent with Auburn University and OIT policies and procedures.
  • Provides advice to upper management and has direct responsibility for project and/or unit management, human resources, and budget administration.
  • May provide or coordinate on-call support for designated systems or services. Performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and 5 years of experience in a specific IT specialty. Knowledge of project and operations management to include team leadership skills including motivating team and group processes, team collaboration, empowering, coaching, mentoring, training, ethical integrity, championing diversity and inclusiveness, and supervising staff. Ability to translate specific strategic information into operational programs. Industry related skills to include knowledge of the IT industry and trends, knowledge of IT security regulations, and proficiency in ITIL.

Experience with design, implementation, and oversight of a homogenous (Windows, Linux, Mac) environment, including all aspects of interoperability regardless of platform (single user accounts, centralized management, seamless file sharing).
Design, implementation and oversight of security systems to support all platforms including Windows group policies, Linux ansible automation and Apple device management and standardization.
Experience directing network design to establish protection and isolation of devices as needed. This includes understanding and design of local and network firewalls, configuration of network devices (pfsense), isolation via VPN or reverse proxy (nginx).
Support of custom web applications via reverse proxy. Experience with certificate management and apache web server. Programming capabilities with PHP and Python. Experience directing others in these areas.
Prior experience overseeing standard operating procedures in a group of system engineers to ensure consistency. Additionally familiar with revision control systems (gitlab).
Experience implementing and supporting an isolated environment to support CUI and other controlled research.
Extensive knowledge of user support in an academic setting including undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and academic support staff. Crafting solutions and policies which conform to departmental and campus standards.
Frontline experience with helpdesk support, direction of students and other IT staff to resolve issues quickly and consistently.
