RSG is seeking a Vice President of Planning and Modeling who will build and drive growth across multiple practice areas by developing and executing a market strategy that draws from and builds upon the capabilities of RSG, including embedding RSG's client development principles, which position growth strategy as a firm-wide responsibility. The Vice President will play a critical role in cultivating a culture where client development is collaborative, structured, and data-informed, and will lead efforts to expand RSG's impact in both public and select private sector markets adjacent to transportation. This role is location flexible and will be supported by our offices in Vermont, Washington D.C., Chicago, Denver, Portland OR and San Diego

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Market Development (50%)



  • Uses long-range vision to drive growth in new and existing markets - spanning public agencies and strategically selected private sector clients adjacent to transportation - by applying a deliberate, data-informed market strategy aligned with RSG's client development approach.


  • Develops comprehensive plans of action based on research and in-depth investigations of industry needs, trends, and forecasted disruptors.
  • Works with a long-term perspective to establish and maintain relationships that are deep enough to carry over to work that goes beyond the obvious or advertised client needs. Seeks to work up the value chain within existing and new markets.
  • Applies subject matter expertise in travel demand modeling, land use forecasting, scenario planning, or other qualitative methods to assess opportunities and lead strategy development
  • Champions a firm-wide client development mindset, engaging cross-functional teams to consistently identify and act on opportunities for sustainable client relationships and market expansion.
  • Leads re-entry into transportation-adjacent private markets by identifying high-impact opportunities where RSG's planning and modeling capabilities can deliver scalable value.

  • Leads processes for integrating strategies and concepts into business plans that motivate teams to achieve organizational goals and initiatives. Monitors and manages performance against the plans.

  • Leads team execution and timely delivery on all aspects of work including both qualitative and quantitative methods with a strong emphasis on delivering innovative insights and results with impact. This may at times include managing of project.
  • Promotes a growth-oriented culture in which client development is embedded across roles, ensuring all staff understand and contribute to strategic business development goals.
  • Role models and reinforces the corporate values at all times, through leadership, communications and continuous improvement.



QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience



  • Masters, with extensive experience leading and growing a consulting practice, ideally in a field such as planning and model development
  • Demonstrated experience applying planning and modeling tools (e.g., travel demand models, land use models, or behavioral simulations) in real-world client settings is preferred
  • Professional certification preferred (e.g., PE, AICP, PMP, PTP)

  • Demonstrated business acumen with strengths in thinking critically and strategically to inform decisions and business direction
  • Strong consulting background with proven ability to scope, lead, and deliver modeling projects under deadline and budget constraints.
  • Demonstrated experience in influencing organizational direction, thought leadership, and creating cross-functional success
  • Successful track record of leading and delivering complex, cross-functional projects amongst competing priorities
  • Demonstrated role model of positive leadership behavior
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate teams and build cohesive alignment around a direction
  • Demonstrated ability to drive performance accountability
  • Strong written and verbal communication with a focus on precision and persuasion for any audience
  • Emotional intelligence with an ability to establish strong, collaborative and trusting relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Strong interest and experience in technology and social platforms
  • Strong storytelling and data visualization capabilities
  • Brings a well-established network of contacts and potential clients
  • Demonstrated abilities in planning and model application
  • Demonstrated understanding of model development and forecasting
  • Experience fostering firm-wide accountability and engagement around growth strategies, particularly through structured client development processes.
  • Demonstrated success navigating and expanding presence in private sector markets adjacent to transportation, with an understanding of how to translate technical capabilities into scalable client value.
