About the Job

*Duties/responsibilities
-This short-term position is for AY26 and is to teach two 4xxx-level 4-credit courses during Fall 2025 and two 4xxx-level 4-credit courses during Spring 2026. As the instructor of record for an entire course, responsibilities include (but not limited to): develop and provide instruction, prepare and deliver lectures for assigned course; prepare class materials, homework assignments, quizzes, exams, laboratory experiments; assess student work, grade examinations, reports, and assign final grades; hold office hours. (34%)

-Manage the operation and administration of the course, including: organization of course and maintain course CANVAS site; communication with students enrolled in course; operation of all laboratory experiments, if a lab component is part of the course; manage the Teaching Assistants (TAs) assigned to the course; follow all CSE & UMN policies related to Instructor and Unit Responsibilities; perform other duties directly related to the delivery of a course. (33%)

-Work with the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUGS) to contribute to the training of the TAs across the Mechanical Engineering department for both the fall and spring term. This includes: maintaining the Mechanical Engineering Departments TA CANVAS site; attend the fall ME TA orientation; lead the spring ME TA orientation; communicate with the TAs throughout the year through both the ME TA group email address and the ME TA CANVAS page and answer questions as they arise. (33%)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
-Doctorate in mechanical engineering or a related field required for appointment
-The ability to instruct effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels to a diverse group of engineering students is required.
-Ability to teach courses in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, system dynamics and controls, design and manufacturing, and to serve as a senior design instructor.
-Expertise and documented teaching activities must demonstrate a strong potential to enhance the department's teaching missions.

Preferred Qualifications
-Experience teaching engineering curriculum at an institute of higher education is highly desired.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has an internationally recognized faculty, and is part of the College of Science and Engineering, the highly interdisciplinary college of engineering, physical sciences, and mathematics.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $60,000 - $75,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
