About the Job

Job Duties:
A Research Professional 1- Life Sciences position is available in the Bold Lab, Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

The Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine seeks an enthusiastic candidate with a passion for biomedical science and human health to join a newly founded research group. The overall focus of our research is to improve understanding of the key mechanisms of antigenicity and protective immunity in tuberculosis (TB). We are striving to define the critical determinants of adaptive immunity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterial pathogen responsible for TB, the most common infectious cause of death in the world. Using innovative techniques in mycobacterial genetics and cellular immunology, we aim to better characterize mammalian adaptive immune responses in this devastating infection. Our goal is to advance the ongoing effort to develop an effective new vaccine against TB.

The position is full time (40 hours per week) with benefits, and is available with a desired start date of September 1, 2025.

75% - Research Primary duties and responsibilities will include studies of Mycobacterium tuberculosis pathogenesis and cellular immunology.
Projects include development of genetic tools for gene targeted and high throughput genomic assays in the mouse model of TB. This will include basic techniques in molecular biology and cloning.
Research focus will include immunologic studies of the mouse model of tuberculosis, and will involve the opportunity to assist in the biosafety level 3 laboratory, with infection of mice and processing of mouse tissues.
Other techniques involved will include bacterial and mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, and fluorescence microscopy.
The overall focus of our research is to improve understanding of the key mechanistic determinants of antigenicity and protective immunity in TB.
