Job Details:
Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC), a research institute of Mercer University, provides high quality engineering, scientific, and technical support services to both government and private industry customers.

The Network Security Specialist performs Cybersecurity Maturity Model audits for compliance under the supervision of the Director of Network Systems and Information Assurance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Requires an understanding and the ability to interpret the NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171 and communicate this information to stakeholders.
  • Advise Management and Network Systems team on risk levels and security posture related to the MERC IT infrastructure.
  • Collect and maintain data needed to meet system cybersecurity reporting.
  • Ensure that security improvement actions are evaluated, validated, and implemented as required.
  • Ensure that cybersecurity checklists, tests, and reviews are coordinated for the IT environment.
  • Evaluate change efforts to ensure that baseline security safeguards are appropriately installed as they relate to security compliance.
  • Participate in information security risk assessments during the Security Assessment and Authorization process.
  • Participate in the development or modification of the computer environment System Security plan, policies and Plan of Action and Milestones or other requirements.
  • Prepare, distribute, and maintain plans, instructions, guidance, and standard operating procedures concerning the security of network system(s) operations.
  • Track audit findings and recommendations to ensure that appropriate mitigation actions are taken.
  • Assist in maintenance of policy standards and implementation strategies to ensure procedures and guidelines comply with cybersecurity policies.
  • Ensure that plans of actions and milestones or remediation plans are in place for vulnerabilities identified during risk assessments, audits, inspections, etc.
  • Support necessary compliance activities (e.g., ensure that system security configuration guidelines are followed, compliance monitoring occurs).
  • Assist in the Continuous validation of the organization against policies/guidelines/procedures/regulations/laws to ensure compliance.
  • Experience with Hybrid GCC High Cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
  • An undergraduate degree in Cyber Security or Information Technology with a Cybersecurity specialization from an accredited institution and at least 2 years of directly related experience; or an Associate's Degree and 6 years of directly related experience.
  • A CISM, CISSP or equivalent certification is required.
  • Ability to assist with or develop Systems Security Plans, Policies and POAMs related to compliance programs.
  • Knowledge of Cyber Security Principles.
  • Service-oriented; ability to effectively communicate and interface with users, peers, and vendors (written and oral).
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure is required.
