DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Lifeguard at Frances Slocum State Park, your primary responsibilities will include actively patrolling and monitoring the swimming areas to ensure the safety of all visitors. This role requires keen observation skills to identify swimmers who may be in distress, enabling you to respond swiftly and effectively using established lifesaving techniques. In addition to rescue operations, you will be trained to administer first aid, perform artificial respiration, and execute cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when necessary. Furthermore, part of your duties will involve regularly inspecting safety equipment, including buoys, ropes, and first aid supplies, to ensure they are in proper working condition and readily available for use. Your vigilance and preparedness will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe environment for all park guests.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal Full-time employment without benefits. The season runs from May through September.
  • Part-time schedules NOT available
  • Work hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Work schedule will vary, 37.5 hour work week, weekends, holidays and all shifts will be required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements:

  • All employees must obtain a valid Lifeguard Certification issued by the American Red Cross, YMCA, United States Lifesaving Association, or other authority recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health within 14 days of employment.
  • All employees must obtain valid certifications in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR within 14 days of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.
