DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accountant 1 for the Department of Corrections, you will manage the daily operations of SCI-Forest Inmate Accounting Department and the Inmate General Welfare Fund in accordance with DOC policies, management directives, rules, regulations, local policies, and generally accepted accounting principles and practices. This includes recording and processing payments, as well as managing accounts payable functions. Your responsibilities will involve supervising and training subordinate staff, reviewing documents for propriety and eventual payment, and maximizing the efficiency and continuity of your section's work processes. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Five years of Bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting; or
- One year as a Financial Programs Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Successful completion of the Commonwealth's Accounting Intern Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year as a Fiscal Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration), and fifteen college credits in accounting; or
- A Bachelor's Degree including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
