  • Work experience in radiation safety and/or operational Health Physics to include a strong understanding of radiation protection fundamentals, policies, procedures, and general guidelines
  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills
  • Understanding of radiation and contamination control techniques
  • Knowledge and experience with both radiation protection instrumentation and shipping radioactive materials

Your Opportunity

This full-time role is about making an impact on people's lives and the future of clean energy. You will leverage your skills and experience to be part of an innovative team and make a difference for our customers. As a Radiation Protection / Health and Safety Tech in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Operations Support Business Line in the Installed Base Business Unit. Your work will include:



  • May perform general instrument calibration and utilize equipment point source and inverse square law mathematics.
  • Receives radioactive material shipments.
  • Assists in radioactive shipment preparation.
  • May assist in the preparation of radiation work permits or job permits.
  • Ensures that monitored activities are performed in accord with the ALARA philosophy and procedures.
  • Generates thorough, accurate, and timely radiological survey and analysis documents.
  • Correctly select, test, and operate surveillance instrumentation.
  • Correctly post and control various areas requiring radiological controls.
  • May provide efficiency checks of survey instruments and laboratory equipment.
  • May assist in calibration/maintenance of survey instruments and laboratory equipment.
  • Monitors the transfer of material, equipment, and personnel across radiological control boundaries.
  • Thoroughly survey and assess areas in respect to dose rates and contamination levels.
  • Reports deficiencies in accordance with procedure.
  • Conducts audits in accordance with procedure including criticality safety and Industrial safety.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and order of work areas.
  • Carryout directions of Radiation Monitoring Team Captain in the event of a radiological emergency or drill.
  • Solve math problems involving algebra and the natural log function.
  • Performs environmental sampling for analysis.
  • Performs personnel decontamination.
  • To play an active role in creating a safe and healthy workplace and comply with all applicable safety and health rules.

Your Total Rewards Package

The range of base salary for the position is between $21.50 - $28.10 per hour, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
