Job Overview
The role of the Computer Programmer I is to provide day-to-day support with experience, which includes, Software Design and Development, as well as programming experience with multimedia systems and their programming languages. This position reports to the acting Supervisor. The programmer assists higher-level staff by performing elementary programming tasks that concern limited and simple data items and steps that closely follow patterns of previous work done in the organization. May perform routine programming assignments under close supervision. In addition, to assist higher-level staff, may perform elementary fact-finding concerning a specified work process, e.g., a file of clerical records which is treated as a unit (invoices, requisitions, or purchase orders, etc.); reports findings to higher-level staff.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Assemble, install, and test equipment and parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting RF, multi-pin, fiber optic, and Cat5/6 cable
- Assist with configuration of hardware device settings and software as
- Assist in troubleshooting equipment or system connectivity under guidance.
- Support the implementation and validation of system control logic and user interfaces (touch panels, GUI, etc.).
- Support the integration and testing of secure and classified AV systems in accordance with DoD/NIWC cybersecurity guidelines.
- Collaborate with engineers and cybersecurity personnel to apply STIGs, run ACAS scans, and ensure IA compliance during system build and test phases.
- Gather, document, and maintain records of engineering data, including tests, drawings, device data, and equipment serial numbers.
- Provide Shipboard programming support as
- Support integration, manufacture, installation, planning, and testing of A/V systems, communication systems, and various other
- Perform general labor and support duties as assigned to meet project
- Work under supervision of program/project managers, engineers, and SME's.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of AV system engineering, cybersecurity integration, and customer mission.
- Working with NIWC Atlantic and other technical codes, program/project managers, and SMEs, the Computer Programmer I will assist with the installation, planning, testing, integration, and electronic warfare systems, related ancillary and computer-based systems onboard naval ships and command centers.

Job Requirements
Mandatory
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of programming/coding experience.
- Must possess at least one of the following active CompTIA certifications:
- A+, Network+, or Security+, or the ability to obtain the required certification within 90 days of hire.
- Must be willing to work extended hours including weekends and holidays when needed.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable.
- Must be able to obtain a SECRET security.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug screen.
- Must be able to travel up to 75% of the time to support installations, testing, and customer engagements.
Preferred:
- Navy "A" School for ET, IC, IT, EM, FC, CE or related rate preferred.
- Technical school / certifications.
- Programming Certifications.
- Experience with Python, C++ and C# programming.
- Interest in the Audio Visual (AV) industry.
- Commercial AV experience in integration.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in various environments is crucial, especially while on travel.
- Familiarity with AV integration standards (AVIXA, ANSI, ) and Navy shipboard installation procedures.
Working Conditions:
- Work is generally performed indoors (sedentary).
- Outdoor work, if any, is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather
- Occasional extended travel may be necessary.
- Work areas include corporate facilities, U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard vessels and Military bases, and shipyards.
- Position may be exposed to, and is expected to protect, internal/external confidential, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), and unclassified information.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time, sit, use of hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, or smell.
