GOVERNMENT AGENCY: Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)

POSITION INFORMATION: Full time

LOCATION: Chantilly, VA - Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 days remote after initial 30 days fully onsite)

POSITION TIMING: Active Secret clearance required; must also be able to obtain and maintain a DEA Public Trust clearance (processing time: 4-6 weeks, must be completed prior to start)

JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a Systems Administrator to support the DEA in maintaining and enhancing IT infrastructure and server environments. This role provides critical support to daily operations, including Tier II troubleshooting, patching, upgrades, and system availability, and requires a strong technical foundation in Microsoft technologies and networking.

After an initial 30-day onboarding period onsite, this role transitions to a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite, 2 days remote).



Responsibilities

    Serve as Tier II support for issues escalated from the Tier I help desk
  • Maintain and support Windows servers, including configuration, patch management, upgrades, and system health monitoring
  • Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft Exchange environments
  • Perform routine system maintenance tasks, including backups, updates, and performance tuning
  • Support virtualization technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware
  • Monitor network infrastructure components including switches, routers, and firewalls
  • Document system configurations, updates, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
  • Support user account creation, group policy management, and access controls
  • Collaborate with security teams to ensure compliance with system and network policies
  • Participate in system audits and implement remediation efforts as needed


Qualifications

REQUIRED:
  • Associate's degree in a related field and 1 year of relevant experience (additional education or experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis)
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Exchange administration
  • Experience withvirtualization technologies such as Hyper-V and/or VMware
  • Familiarity with network concepts and components, including switches, routers, and firewalls
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

DESIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field
  • Experience working in a Federal IT environment
  • Familiarity with Active Directory and Group Policy Management
  • Understanding of ITIL principles or formal ITSM processes
  • Scripting or automation experience (e.g., PowerShell)
  • Experience supporting system hardening and compliance initiatives

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Standard office environment; ability to lift 25 pounds.
