POSITION SPECIFICS

We are searching for a self-motivated, positive, customer service oriented, and quality conscious Systems Engineer to join our Information Technology Services Division at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). This role will provide systems engineering, computing support, and specialized support services for the enablement of key research and administrative functions by ensuring the security, compliance, functionality, and reliability of research and administrative systems through hands on configuration and support.

You will:

  • Perform system and security engineering including coordinating, designing, recommending, evaluating, and managing new and existing security services, controls, solutions, processes, and procedures

  • Respond and remediate system security vulnerabilities

  • Implement, test, and support new and emerging technologies while applying security best practices, as well as required compliance measures

  • Present system and network security principles and technology solutions to diverse audiences

  • Conduct risk assessments to determine residual level of risk and any required mitigations

  • Install and configure systems to comply with government regulations

  • Collaborate with Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and other leadership peers regarding enterprise and system-wide computer architecture, capacity planning, security, and usage

  • Ensure proper operational support of systems, servers, and hardware while engaging with stakeholders through a ticketing system

  • Generate and maintain system, security, and process documentation

  • Participate in the implementation of required policies, procedures, and configurations, also making recommendations for improvements

Required skills/experience areas include:

  • Infrastructure Core Services: Active Directory management, Red Hat IDM management, Virtualization (VMware) administration, Commvault backups, and maintenance of secure Windows and Linux servers

  • Demonstrated experience in the enterprise level administration of both Windows and Linux systems

  • Management of enterprise level storage systems

Preferred skills/experience areas include:

  • Demonstrated experience in automating management of Linux and Windows systems

  • VMware administration (vRealize, vSphere, NSX, SRM)

  • Experience in the development of secure Linux and Windows system baseline configurations

  • LDAP authentication and management

  • Enterprise storage resources (ECS, Unity, PowerScale)

  • Systems management (Redhat IDM, AAP)

  • Scripting and automation (Ansible, PowerShell)

  • Active Directory/Group Policy

  • Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Top Secret (Tier 5) level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $86,300.00 - $129,500.00.**THE PROPOSED SALARY RANGE MAY BE IMPACTED BY GEOGRAPHIC DIFFERENTIAL**
