The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) aims to develop student-athletes academically, socially, and athletically while boosting UIC's national athletic profile. In the spirit of Chicago's rich sports culture, the DIA recruits diverse, high-performing student-athletes and strives for excellence in competition, academics, and sportsmanship across its 18 Division I teams.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting the Associate Athletic Director for Sport Performance with the training for strength development, injury prevention, education, nutrition and recovery guidance for student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and execute individual and group/team strength and conditioning programs for select sports.

  • Collaborate with sports medicine department to deliver and injury prevention and recovery training programs.

  • Conduct training sessions and workouts while teaching proper techniques for improved athletic performance.

  • Track, monitor and execute proper data analytics and key performance indicators (KPO) for results.

  • Meet with coaches and sports medicine staff to assess needs, develop programs and monitor individual progress.

  • Track and document injury history and assist in rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

  • Serve as role model and demonstrate a professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public.

  • Provide instruction related to team and leadership concepts/sport specific skills to assigned player groups and individuals.

  • Provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and physical and mental well-being of the student-athletes.

  • Provide general safety instructions for all activities in which the team and/or individuals participate.

  • Adhere to all University, Conference and NACAA rules and regulations.

  • Provide nutrition and recovery as assigned.

  • Travel with designated teams as assigned.

  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or Collegiate Strength and Condition Coaches Association (CSCCa).

  • Knowledge of anatomy and exercise physiology.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple initiatives.

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft word and Excel software.

  • License or Certification: AED and CPOR Certification required upon hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Experience in a Division I program preferred.

  • A commitment to the overall well being of student-athletes.

  • A commitment to integrity, diversity, equity and inclusion.
