The Clinical Oncology Pharmacist is responsible for providing clinical and operational pharmacy services to patients with cancer in the inpatient, ambulatory and infusion care settings. Oncology Pharmacists work closely with physicians, mid-level providers, and nurses to provide comprehensive patient care. Oncology pharmacists support teaching and learning throughout our community and support clinical research, practice advancement, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Once trained and fully meeting expectations, the pharmacist will have a hybrid work model with scheduled on-site and remote work.

This position is a 50:50 hybrid position serving both MGH Yawkey Pharmacy and MGH Inpatient Oncology care areas
In an 8-week cycle, this pharmacist will spend 4 weeks in the Yawkey Infusion Pharmacy and 4 weeks in the Inpatient Oncology Care area serving Lymphoma, Myeloma, BiTE therapy, and solid tumors
Both Area Responsibilities: Actively supports Patient Safety Culture and Just Culture, the Medication Safety process, and continuous Quality Improvement Supports our organizational mission to provide the very best in care through direct patient and medication management and treatment planning in collaboration with multidisciplinary care team Optimizes the treatment plans available for designated disease group though design, management, and optimization of Beacon Treatment Plan Templates Supports our Teaching & Learning programs through precepting and/or training of students, PGY1 Residents, and PGY2 Oncology pharmacy residents and new employees Complies with all policies and procedures Develops, maintains, and optimizes policies, procedures, guidelines, and monographs through the MGH P&T Oncology Subcommittee Supports Pharmacy Department through active participation in Pharmacy Collaborative Governance Committee Supports MGH Cancer Center Network through participation in Key Cancer Center Committees Direct support of Pharmacy operations including order verification, processing, checking, and dispensing for patients MGH Inpatient Oncology Specific Responsibilities:
Serves as the pharmacy champion and liaison for the Head/Neck Oncology division Understands and responds to multidisciplinary role group pharmacy-related needs Serves as disease state expert and manages off-label chemotherapy requests and nonformulary requests
MGH Yawkey Pharmacy Specific Responsibilities:
Serves as a resource for nurses, physicians and other clinicians who participate in the management of the oncology/hematology patient and other patients receiving hazardous, and some non-hazardous, medications at Massachusetts General Hospital, MGH Cancer Center, Cambridge Medical Infusion Unit and the Urology Clinic Oversees the safe handling, operations and preparation of various medications, including IV chemotherapy, IV pre-medications and investigational chemotherapy drugs for outpatient and inpatient use. Checks all admixtures for accurate preparation, overseeing general technician activities, and performing periodic quality control checks

A PGY1 Pharmacy Residency or equivalent experience Licensed to practice pharmacy in Massachusetts Board Certification in Oncology required within 2 years of hire

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Extensive knowledge and ability in all areas of the department including: IV Admixtures, Drug Information, Ambulatory, Manufacturing, and Drug Distribution. - Attention to detail. - Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span of the neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient Possess ability to assess patient data relative to age specific needs Provide care as described in the department's policies/procedures. - Works relatively independently. - Participates in department quality improvement efforts. - Participates in the training of medical, nursing and allied health professionals. - Must complete 20 continuing education credits per year to maintain license. - Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices.
