GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Continuous Improvement Intern will support the identification and execution of continuous improvement initiatives across the facility to help drive operational excellence. This internship provides hands-on experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies. The intern will work closely with cross-functional teams to learn about and contribute to projects that improve efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and cost reduction, while gaining exposure to a culture of continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Assist in analyzing existing manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, quality, cost, and safety.
  • Support cross-functional teams in executing lean manufacturing goals and strategies for improving operations and processes at the site.
  • Help develop and track key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of continuous improvement efforts.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities to address performance gaps or process failures.
  • Contribute to promoting a culture of continuous improvement by supporting training and coaching activities on lean principles and continuous improvement tools.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to help develop and implement standardized work instructions and best practices.
  • Assist with new product introductions and process changes to ensure robust and efficient implementation.
  • Support cost reduction projects related to materials usage, cycle time, downtime, and labor productivity.
  • Participate in time studies, process capability analysis, and other industrial engineering activities to support process optimization.
  • Help maintain documentation related to continuous improvement projects, including project charters, reports, and improvement action plans.
  • Ensure all assigned tasks comply with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties assigned based on the needs of the business.


EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong interest in process improvement, lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Coursework or academic projects related to manufacturing, process optimization, or data analysis preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data analysis or visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate initiative in learning.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Physically able to lift up to 75 lbs, occasionally.
  • Physically able to push, pull, lift, bend, climb, kneel, twist, squat, crawl and use hands/forearms repetitively and frequently.
  • Ability to move around for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, swing stages and man lifts at various heights frequently.


WORKING CONDITIONS:



  • Moderate to high risk of exposure to unusual elements.
  • Moderate to high risk of safety precautions.
  • Moderate to high exposure to production environment.
  • Wet, hot, humid, and wintry conditions (weather related) (plant specific)
  • Ability to work outside year-round (plant specific)
