Job Description Summary

The Senior Director of Scientific Communications Lead will lead a high-performing team responsible for developing and executing strategic scientific communication plans across the product lifecycle for all Novartis Therapeutic Areas. This role is pivotal in shaping the scientific narrative and ensuring alignment across global, regional, and local teams.

This is a remote role

Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and align the development and execution of scientific communication strategies and publication plans across all therapeutic areas.
* Oversee the creation of high-quality scientific content including abstracts, posters, manuscripts, congress content and presentations.
o Ensure ways of working with Content Development Novartis Corporate Center (NoCC)
o Design and implement automation and other process improvements to ensure delivery of high quality scientific content from the NoCC
* Ensure alignment of communication efforts across internal stakeholders and external partners.
* Oversee overall omnichannel opportunities within USMA
* Supervise and mentor a team of scientific communication professionals across all Novartis TA's.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Clinical Development, Medical Strategy Teams (MST), HEOR, Commercial, and Corporate Communications.
* Ensure alignment with GMA/IMA to develop and implement working practices and other critical ways of working
* Manage relationships with external agencies and ensure compliance with publication ethics and standards.
* Oversee budget planning and financial forecasting as needed

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $192k - $288k/year however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Job Description

Position Requirements

* Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD) in a scientific discipline required. Healthcare specific preferred

* 10+ years of experience in medical or scientific communications within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.

* Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex projects.

* Strong understanding of publication planning, regulatory requirements, and good publication practices.

* Excellent communication, collaboration, and strategic thinking skills.

  • Proven track record of engagement with cross-functional teams and stakeholders in a manner that exudes confidence and results in highly effective outcomes and positive feedback
  • High degree of self-awareness and agility in performing under pressure and in rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to build business strategies to solve complex challenges and influence key stakeholders
  • Experience developing and managing risk mitigation

* People management experience with track record of developing high performing teams, preferably with some global interfaces

  • Financial management or budgeting experience in relevant area

Position will be filled at level commensurate with experience.

Salary Range

$168,000.00 - $312,000.00
