Position: Consumer Credit Underwriter II | Division: Bank Product and Transformation| Work Days: Monday - Friday| Hours of Operation: 8:00am - 5:00pm

Position Overview: This role is responsible for reviewing, processing, underwriting, and documenting consumer loan applications in compliance with regulatory and internal guidelines. The position serves as an intermediate-level underwriter for designated loan products and provides training and assistance to entry-level underwriters. This role works directly with Bank personnel to facilitate complete loan applications for analysis and sound underwriting. Essential Functions:
- Maintains thorough knowledge of the Bank's consumer loan products, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrates a general understanding of consumer policies and products and underwriting related to private banking products.
- Responds to inquiries from internal customers within established time frames, providing prompt, courteous service.
- Underwrites and approves consumer loans, including rate and policy exceptions, within assigned lending authority
- Evaluates applications beyond lending authority and makes appropriate recommendations, ensuring adherence to the Consumer Credit Policy and Guidelines.
- Works with bankers and Loan Processing to gather necessary information to underwrite consumer loans.
- Analyzes personal income tax returns and financial statements of moderate complexity.
- Communicates credit decisions within the loan origination system. Conducts follow-up with bankers and Loan Processing in accordance with established guidelines to obtain pending information.
- Provides on-the-job training to new hires and entry-level underwriters. Serves as a subject matter expert on consumer loan products.
- Assists with testing for rate changes and upgrades within the loan origination system, identifies discrepancies, and makes recommendations for system enhancements and process improvements.
- Identifies opportunities to up sell and/or cross-sell related bank products and services.
- Meet and maintain financial responsibility, character and general fitness standards along with all other established requirements for an individual Loan Originator in accordance with Regulation Z.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to support the Bank's operations.
- This position may require travel within the Bank's geographic area.
Experience & Education:
- Minimum of 2 years of consumer loan underwriting, processing, or servicing experience.
- Experience with consumer loan approval authority and direct customer contact within a financial services organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of consumer lending, including banking compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with credit scoring, automated application, and underwriting systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or a four-year degree preferred.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to work effectively with both internal and external customers.
- Strong knowledge of consumer loan documents and loan closing processes.
- Familiarity with banking compliance and regulatory requirements, particularly related to consumer credit underwriting and lending authority.
- Proficiency in using loan systems such as Meridian Link Consumer and FiServ (preferred).
- Moderate proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and general computer operations, including Microsoft Office software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet deadlines and
manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. - In-depth knowledge of consumer
lending policies, compliance standards, and relevant financial regulations. - Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull weights or otherwise move objects weighing as much as 10 lbs. on a regular basis and/or for extended periods of time during the workday.
