Job Summary - Senior Vice President, Chief Pharmacy Officer
Provides leadership and strategic direction for the coordination, integration, and analysis of pharmacy services across Corewell Health in alignment with our mission and vision. Manages complex change initiatives, directs the pharmacy leadership team, and creates an empowering environment for staff. Assumes complete accountability for the overall delivery of pharmacy programs, services and business offerings and promotes evidence-based use of medications, financial stability and positive patient outcomes. Exhibits vision and influential direction on pharmaceutical issues across Corewell Health. Collaborates closely with Priority Health on strategic initiatives and best practices. Ensures compliance with all laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards that govern the practice of pharmacy. Develops and implements operational, clinical, quality, financial and safety goals.
Essential Functions - Senior Vice President, Chief Pharmacy Officer
  • Responsible for the overall pharmacy operations and the coordination of pharmacy services and business units throughout all of Corewell Health's care divisions.
  • Directs, establishes, and plans pharmacy strategies in coordination with the organization's vision and goals. Coordinates with organizational and community leaders to align and integrate pharmacy services. Serves as the executive liaison with external corporate partners.
  • Leads strategic and tactical planning and analysis of organization-wide medication management activities and projects. Understands the corporate vision and goals and develops and implements a departmental vision to advance those goals.
  • Facilitates applicable committee activities and participates on other committees/task forces as member, consultant and/or chair as assigned.
  • Develops a structure for the pharmacy enterprise that requires accountability and encourages professional growth. Leads standardization, systemization, and performance improvement initiatives across the enterprise.
  • Ensures that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, safety, cost effectiveness, and efficiency. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures the development of accurate and reliable budgets for each pharmacy cost center across the pharmacy enterprise. Establishes and monitors performance scorecards to effectively track fiscal performance and to identify and correct budget variances. Achieves budget targets for each pharmacy cost center across the enterprise. Recognizes potential for revenue growth within the department and exercises plans that capitalize on that potential as appropriate.
  • Assumes ultimate accountability for staffing, and appropriately manages leadership and staff issues in concert with Human Resources. This includes hiring, developing, and retaining a high performing leadership team and structure that propels success.
  • Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field, including best practices, to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications - Senior Vice President, Chief Pharmacy Officer
  • Required Bachelor's Degree of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited institution
  • Preferred Master's Degree Hospital Pharmacy, Business Administration, Business Management or other health related field
  • 10 years of relevant experience pharmacy experience with 5 years progressively responsible leadership experience Required
  • experience working in an organization comparable to size and/or complexity of Corewell Health System Required
  • experience with ambulatory care, infusion, 340B and Specialty Pharmacy Required
  • experience in a system that provides complex pharmacy care (ex: transplant) Preferred
  • post-graduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency Preferred
  • post-graduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency Preferred
  • Active involvement in professional pharmacy organizations (Ex: ASHP) Preferred
  • LIC-Clinical Pharmacist - STATE_MI State of Michigan 180 Days required
  • LIC-Pharmacist Controlled Substance - STATE_MI State of Michigan 180 Days required
