Job Overview

The Director of Software Engineering at Macy's Technology plays a critical leadership role in shaping and delivering technology solutions that drive business success. This leader will work with technical and business teams to make decisions that prioritize code quality, delivery predictability, and business value. Leveraging deep engineering expertise and strong leadership experience, the Director will recruit and develop top talent, oversee large-scale technology initiatives, and elevate software excellence across the organization. This role is based in Johns Creek, GA and reports to Sr. Director, Product and Common Services.

What You Will Do



  • Lead, mentor, and coach managers and individual contributors, raising the talent bar across the Engineering Team and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Act as a trusted partner to executive stakeholders, ensuring alignment between business objectives and software development strategy.
  • Explore future technology needs for Macy's by balancing technology innovation, industry trends, and Macy's customer and associate-facing solution needs.
  • Lead the development, delivery, product management, and operations of common service capabilities across Macy's Inc, working closely with other technology departments to identify and implement common API service that facilitate seamless integration, enhance interoperability, and optimize overall system performance.
  • Advise Macy's Tech senior management on strategic plans and improvements to systems and processes to execute business vision and strategic plan.
  • Stay current on the technology stack and platforms.
  • Collaborate with various cross-functional teams to modernize Macy's platforms.
  • Enhance software quality across Macy's Technology organization and drive end-to-end accountability at all levels.
  • Manage the portfolio's budget, projects, and resources planning.



Skills You Would Need



  • Engineering Expertise: Strong foundation in modern technology stack and experience implementing modern technologies.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale technology implementations in retail or related industries.
  • Strategic Planning: Experience advising senior management on strategic plans and improvements to systems and processes.
  • Collaboration: Ability to partner with various cross-functional teams to modernize platforms.
  • Software Quality: Commitment to enhancing software quality and driving end-to-end accountability.
  • Budget Management: Experience managing budget, projects, and resources planning.



Who You Are



  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, engineering management, and leading large-scale transformation initiatives for high-volume enterprise systems, preferably in retail.
  • 3+ years of experience in a People Leader role.
  • Experience building cloud-native applications in private and public cloud (GCP, Azure, AWS) is a plus.
  • An ongoing learner that influences others to think innovatively.
  • Experience managing large offshore teams and third-party vendors is a plus.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex issues and insights to a variety of stakeholders, including non-experts.
  • Passionate about solving customer and business problems.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
