In the role of Drainage Designer, we'll count on you to:



  • Assist the Senior Engineer(s) with site studies, site designs, contract documentation preparation and graphic presentation.
  • Provide project engineering with a focus on drainage design for transportation projects and public transportation clients throughout the Southern California Region.
  • Conduct hydraulic and hydrologic modeling; conduct stormwater collection systems modeling and design; collect, assimilate, and present data in reports, memos and public forums; production of design calculations and technical reports; and lead preparation of engineering plans and specifications for design of detention facilities, storm drains, flood control facilities, and other hydraulic structures.
  • Work independently as well as assist groups of medium to large teams of professionals and technician's dependent on project/task.
  • Will be involved in highway and rail/transit drainage design and plans production for Caltrans and Municipal clients, drainage analysis and documentation, and stormwater management design & permitting.
  • Perform overall site layout, grading, utility layout and drainage.
  • Perform routine engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures.
  • Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables.
  • Perform administrative duties associated with project management for civil/site projects.
  • Work independently on small projects or assist more-senior engineers on larger projects.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate. Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
  • 6 years experience is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Previous work experience with Caltrans projects (studies and design) is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Proficient with hydrology and hydraulic software such as HydroWIN, WSPG and Bentley Flowmaster.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Proficient with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, familiarity and demonstrated experience with Highways and Roads engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $69,000 - $80,000 and depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
