About the Department:
The Department of Health Administration and Policy educates students and conducts research in health systems management, health policy and health informatics. The department fields academic programs in Health Administration/Healthcare Management and Health Informatics at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels to prepare new leaders and experts in the use of technology, evidence-based decision making and health systems management to improve public health and the quality of healthcare.
About the Position:
The Part-Time (30 hours/week) Term Faculty member coordinates and delivers instruction for the Capstone Internship Course Sequence in the AUPHA-certified Bachelor of Science in Health Administration (BSHA) program. This role focuses on student preparation and support across the internship sequence, including a pre-internship seminar and the culminating field placement experience.
Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership, and Service
- Teach and manages the pre-internship preparation course and the internship course (two-course sequence);
- Guides students in setting learning goals aligned with program competencies and course outcomes;
- Evaluates student performance, including reflection assignments, deliverables, and presentations; and
- Serves on Department, CPH and University level faculty committees and working groups.
Internship Development and Oversight
- Identifies and cultivates prospective internship sites aligned with program goals and student interests;
- Recruits, evaluates, and maintains relationships with qualified site preceptors; and
- Ensures internship experiences meet AUPHA and university standards, and comply with applicable policies.
Student Support and Advising
- Works one-on-one with students to prepare for internship placements through resume review, interview prep, and professional development activities;
- Matches students with internship sites and coordinate placement logistics; and
- Provides ongoing support and communication to students during their internship experience.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serves as liaison between the academic program, students, internship sites, and preceptors; and
- Maintains regular communication with preceptors regarding student progress, expectations, and evaluation.
Program Assessment and Quality Improvement
- Contributes to course and program-level assessment related to the internship experience; and
- Participates in curriculum review and accreditation-related activities as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Health Administration, Business, Public Health, Healthcare Management, or a related field;
- Professional experience in health administration or healthcare leadership;
- Strong knowledge of health administration principles, healthcare delivery systems, healthcare management practices, and organizational operations;
- Knowledge of career paths across diverse healthcare organizations, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health agencies, and healthcare consulting firms;
- Effective teaching skills, with experience in career readiness, professional development, and internship preparation courses;
- Student advising and mentoring skills focused on professional development and career success;
- Conflict management and resolution skills to address challenges during internship placements;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented academic environment;
- Understanding of internship development, experiential education models, and student professional preparation;
- Understanding of curriculum development and instructional strategies suited for adult learners; and
- Dedication to fostering student success, professional growth, and achievement of learning outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in a related field;
- Experience in academic instruction or student mentoring, preferably in a university setting;
- Knowledge of internship coordination and student experiential learning models;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for interaction with students, healthcare partners, and university stakeholders;
- Strong relationship-building skills to develop and maintain partnerships with healthcare organizations and site supervisors;
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple student placements, evaluations, and related documentation;
- Ability to adapt to evolving healthcare industry needs and align internship opportunities with program competencies;
- Ability to effectively use educational technologies, including learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas) and internship management tools; and
- Familiarity with AUPHA certification standards and competency-based education frameworks.
